Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2024 – match 25 – Sunrisers vs Lancashire Thunder

  • +1

Sunrisers vs Thunder at Chelmsford (The Cloud County Ground, Essex) on 30 June 2024 at 10h30

Sophie Munro

Playing her first 50-overs match for Sunrisers this season, debutante All Rounder Sophie Munro put in a match-winning performance, both with bat-and-ball. When batting, Sophie Munro scored a run-a-ball 20 during a 32-run batting partnership with tail-ender Kate Coppack. When bowling, Sophie Munro took three decisive wickets during one single over. That assured Sunrisers of victory, having reduced Thunder’s score from 220/6 to 221/9 with 34 runs still needed but with only one wicket remaining. Commentators lauded Sophie Munro for taking a ‘magnificent’ 5-fer once Sunrisers’ skipper took the match-winning catch from (what turned out to be) Sophie Munro’s final ball. Remarkably, Sunrisers’ 30-run winning margin over Thunder equated to Sophie Munro’s last-wicket stand, as mentioned above. Sunrisers gained their unprecedented fifth win to share top-position with Diamonds and Vipers (as defending champions) after seven rounds. After the match, Sunrisers head coach Andy Tennant spoke about a welcome turn-around of events for a team that recently collected their fourth consecutive wooden spoon at 20 overs – please see below. Commentators: Kevin Hand – unannounced (Sports journalist) with Danni Warren (Middx regional director of women’s cricket, for Sunrisers) Adverse weather caused 55 minutes delay during the 10th over. Each innings was reduced to 48 overs when play resumed.
