Charlotte Edwards Cup 2024 – match 39 – Sunrisers vs Storm

  • +1

Sunrisers vs Western Storm at Chelmsford, at The Cloud County Ground on 19 June 2024 at 11h30

Home team commentators remained optimistic for most of the match, at least until mid-way when Sunrisers were just 5 runs behind. Beyond mid-way all-but-one of their remaining wickets were ‘thrown away.’ Match highlights included Storm’s opener Emma Corney (pictured) who’d recovered from pre-season injury last month, to post her career-best score for the competition [46 runs (from 49 balls).] Together with Heather Knight’s (England’s skipper) who scored a match-winning ‘fifty,’ the pair added 74 runs. Storm went on to lose six wickets for 41 runs. Sophie Munro for took two pairs of Storm wickets, chalking-up her career-best 4-fer. Sunrisers made an ‘excellent start,’ (at least until mid-way – as mentioned above.) Needing 15 to win their final over, Sunrisers suffered frustration of two ‘run-outs,’ only to ‘come-up short.’ Sadly, Sunrisers received their fourth consecutive ‘wooden spoon,’ Storm narrowly avoiding their first. Commentators were Kevin Hand (Cricket journalist) with guest Danni Warren (Middx regional director of women’s cricket) for Sunrisers. Weather: cloudy with patches of blue sky 15-20C.
