Wakefield Trinity head coach Wayne Hirst has named his 2019 squad for the upcoming Women’s Super League season.

At the season launch event on Friday hosted at Ambassador club Sharlston Rovers, men’s head coach Chris Chester handed out shirts to the 26 strong playing squad.

Around 100 supporters, sponsors and players were in attendance where Chester offered some words of advice before the Women’s Super League season kicks off this Sunday (7th April) against Challenge Cup holders Leeds Rhinos at Weetwood Sports, 1pm kick off.

Chris Chester said “I think there’s a great coaching staff here who are prepared to work hard. That paired with the strong senior leadership team from last year will no doubt stand the team in good stead for the step up into Super League.”

“I’m really looking forward to see how the ladies progress this year. It’s a massive step up but I think they have the support and playing personnel to have a good crack at this competition.”

“At Wakefield Trinity every year we are written off, we’re always the underdogs. There’s some good established teams in the Women’s comp and I think if the Ladies just concentrate on their own performances and don’t worry too much about the opposition I think the results will take care of themselves.”

Ladies head coach Wayne Hirst who is in his second year with the club, congratulated the players who made the final cut after a long gruelling pre-season.

“It’s not been easy, we started the preseason knowing that we had a limit on how many players could be signed on. That’s meant unfortunately we’ve had to let some players go find other clubs so they can develop as players and get game time elsewhere.”

“The ladies will be playing at the pinnacle of the Women’s game against experienced international players so I’d like to congratulate all the ladies who gained a squad number tonight.”

Wakefield Trinity Ladies remain unbeaten with 6 wins from 6 in the Women’s Championship, grinding out a steely 14-4 victory overs hosts Oulton Raidettes. The Round 6 clash was always going to be an close contest as the 1st and 2nd placed teams faced off at Raider Park.

It was Wakefield who started the brighter in what would turn out to be 2 all important scores within the opening ten minutes. On the back of a quick defensive line Trinity managed to snuff out Oulton’s attacking threats and were rewarded with possession on their hosts line. Powerhouse prop forward Jordan Catling proved to be too much to handle close to the line merging her way over to open the afternoons account.

Possession in a similar position led to Trinity’s next try when hooker Kelsey Armistead darted over after several offloads opened a gap for the vice-captain. Lisa Taylor successfully added the extras to give Wakefield an important ten point buffer.

Wakefield looked to enhance their lead but resolute defense from Oulton contained their advances despite the strong running from Dani Swaine in at prop. Trinity’s pack lost some of it’s go forward when Jordan Catling who had to retire from the field after a clash of heads.

Just before the interval Oulton clawed back the deficit with an unconverted try when hooker Megan Beach was first to react from a rogue Trinity offload, Wakefield 10-4 up at the break.

As the league table suggested the teams were very closely matched and Wakefield worked hard to hold out Oulton and defend the first half lead. Trinity squandered several scoring opportunities and the game lay in the balance until Wakefield sealed the win with 10 minutes left to go. Winger Saskia Lewis crossed in corner after some slick handling from Gilmour and Reynard.

The conversion sailed wide and Trinity held on to the 10 point margin till the final whistle to register an all important win and extend 4 points clear of Leigh, Barrow and Oulton who are all level.

On keeping the 100% Championship win rate intact Head Coach Wayne Hirst said “We expected a tough game and Oulton didn’t disappoint I thought they were really good defensively. I was really pleased in how we started the game getting up in their faces and forcing errors which lead to those two important early tries.”

“We didn’t have a large bench and when Jordan (Catling) had to come off after a clash of heads we couldn’t replace that go forward. I thought Dani Swaine was really good in the middle today, she never stopped working and did some big minutes.”

“In the second half we had some opportunities to give ourselves some breathing room but we tried to overplay and we bombed a few chances.”

Wakefield are almost halfway through the season having only Barrow to see in the flesh, this weekend Trinity will travel to Hull FC who they beat at home in the first game of the season 40-10.

On the fixture Hirst said “I’m really pleased to be on the top of the table at this point of the season but we need to not fall in love with ourselves. Hull FC will be a different team to what we faced first up and they’ve picked up some wins since then, we need to prepare professionally for what will be a tough game.”

Wakefield Trinity Ladies bounced back to winning ways in emphatic style as they unleashed a backlash on Widnes Vikings at the Mobile Rocket Stadium as 16 year old fullback Amy Brinkley registered a hat trick of tries to remain unbeaten in the Women’s Championship.

Still hurting after last weeks defeat to the hands of Leeds Rhinos the Trinity Ladies prepared well throughout the week to ensure that they delivered a performance for their outing on the Belle Vue turf.

The newly formed Widnes Vikings team who were also reeling from defeat to Super League opposition last time out in the Challenge cup started brightly in the tough energy sapping conditions but the gulf in experience soon told.

Amy Brinkley

15 minutes in Trinity punished Widnes for a handling error in their own half as Lisa Taylor took the first carry from the resulting scrum taking on the line to give her side an overlap before dummying her winger and beating the full back to open the scoring.

That try seemed to open the flood gates as Widnes struggled to keep up with the pace of Wakefields attack. Fullback Amy Brinkley marauding run setup the field position and quick play of the ball for prop Jordan Catling to burst onto Kelsey Armistead pass to crash over with several defenders in tow, Nic Austin-Dyson added the first of her three first half conversions.

Widnes had the next opportunity getting close to cross the whitewash but resolute defense from Reynard and Austin-Dyson bundled Nina Martin into touch.

Michaela Reith

Despite the hot conditions Wakefield kept up the pace and were rewarded with 2 quickfire tries from acting half to go into a commanding 22-0 lead, the first from Michaela Reith who scooted over after a Jessie Matthews break and the next from similar position for Kelsey Armistead after Lisa Taylor went over 50 meters with a barnstorming break.

Taylor was also involved with the last try of the half with a break before Brinkley took on the line and stepped the cover defence to go over outwide and take a 26-0 lead into the interval.

A sizable crowd enjoyed the scorching weather and red-hot rugby on display from the hosts and Trinity continued with their dominance as Kelly-Marie Hall latched onto Hannah Watts initial break. Lisa Taylor soon went in for her second try of the afternoon as Dani Rose broke down the touch side before winning a penalty as Widnes tried to slow down the play of the ball so the visiting defense could set up their defensive line, Taylor took the tap 20 meters out and powered over.

Lisa Taylor

Fullback Amy Brinkley gave the fans plenty to cheer about in the next try and the full back defused the last tickle Widnes kick before racing to the 20 meter for a quick tap but the match official pulled her back for tapping off the mark. That didn’t stop Brinkley who returned to retake the tap before heading towards space on the touchline and go 80 meters rounding the fullback to go under the sticks. Lisa Taylor taking charge of kicking duties adding the extras to bring up the forty.

Hannah Watt was next to cross hitting a superb line supplied by Beci Brierley, Taylor again adding the conversion. There was just enough time for Amy Brinkley to finish off a sublime afternoon performance with her hat trick try from long range. From 10 meters from her own line the fullback raced the length of the field again finding space down the flank and evading the tired efforts of Widnes, Taylor again improving the try to round up a comprehensive 52-0 victory.

The win see’s Wakefield stay at the top of the table unbeaten with 5 wins from 5 but next up will be a much tougher fixture as they travel to Oulton Raidettes who sit just 2 points behind Trinity in second. The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 17th at Raider Park.

The Ladies team are hoping for a strong crowd in Sunday’s game which kicks off at 2pm at Sharlston Rovers after their opening home game clashed with the men’s home fixture. With the men’s team in Challenge cup action at Huddersfield on Friday night and free admission at the Ladies game on Sunday there should be a bumper crowd at Sharlston Rovers, the ladies training and matchday base.

Wayne Hirst

The Wakefield ladies were without a fixture last weekend as they received a bye, but head coach Wayne Hirst insists the side’s momentum is still going strong saying “Ideally we want to play every week but that’s how the cup goes. We’ve kept the training intense in the last two weeks and we enjoyed a good session with Keith Mason last week. We’ve got another session before the game in which we’ll concentrate on our game plan to hopefully continue our unbeaten run. Leigh Miners are a good side though and they had a good win at the weekend in the cup beating Whitley Bay by 54-4, so they’ll come confident.”

Captain Rebecca Brierley commented on the team’s progress saying  “each week we are growing as a team, training is really paying off and the Ladies are giving it their all every game. I’m hoping for a better start this weekend we started that game poor but Wayne’s words at half time were stern but what we needed to hear.”

Rebecca Brierley

“This week we need a big defensive effort as Leigh Miners scored some points in their last game. The ladies are looking forward to a competitive game and I’m sure it will bring the best out of them.”

Vice-captain Kelsey Armistead is also expecting a good game saying: “We know Leigh will be a strong outfit so we have to play smart rugby, in recent weeks we have been a little sloppy in attack so we need to tighten that up in preparation for Sunday. As a team I am confident in our ability we are building and growing each week, Leigh will be a great test for us and I expect it will be a brilliant game to watch.”

The Wakefield Trinity ladies would love the support of the Trinity fans and this is a great opportunity for the Wakefield Supporters to get down and show their support on Sunday hopefully on the back the men’s team progressing into the Quarter final of the Challenge cup. For those Trinity fans further afield we hope to bring you an exclusive live stream,  follow @WTLRL on twitter or https://www.facebook.com/wtladies/ on Facebook for links to the game.

The Wakefield Trinity ladies team recently benefited from a training session lead by special guest Keith Mason.

The former Trinity, Saints, Castleford and Huddersfield Giants player put the ladies through a master class of skills and strategy following their recent round 3 win over Stanningley. Mason has appeared in the film Skin Traffik alongside Mickey Rourke and Daryl Hannah and more recently in the TV series Peaky Blinders.

Fresh from them their Stanningley victory the former prop forward concentrated on technique rather fitness, but was keen to come back and put the Ladies through their paces not so soon after a game next time.

Mason said “I really enjoyed the session, I was invited down by captain Rebecca Brierley and I was pleasantly surprised. The skill and energy from the girls was amazing especially as it was only 24 hours after they played. I definitely want to come back down and do another session with them and put them through their paces.”

The Dewsbury born star passed on some golden nuggets from his 14 year career to the Trinity players concentrating on wrapping up the ball, running some set plays and scoring close to the line.

Head Coach Wayne Hirst who’s side is currently unbeaten in the Women’s Championship said “It was great to have Keith down to run a session for ladies, I think they got a lot out of it. They really applied themselves to the drills and I think they enjoyed something different after a tough pre-season. The mood in the camp is really positive at the moment both on and off the field.”

The Ladies team are enjoying good numbers at training and the squad has been bolstered with the signing of Danielle Swain. The former Bradford Bulls captain will add extra strike to an already formidable pack. The signing comes at a crucial time as Sundays’ victory at Stanningley came at cost. Prop forward Anita Godfrey had to leave the field with a knee ligament injury and will need to see specialists to assess the extent of the injury.

Hirst said “Its really unfortunate for Anita as she’s had a great start to the season, she’s been one of our most consistent performers and you can tell she’s really been enjoying her rugby. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that its too serious and that she can recover to her early form.”

The Wakefield Trinity ladies team remain unbeaten in their 2018 Women’s Championship campaign after coming from behind at half time to register a tough 22-8 victory over hosts Stanningley to make it 3 wins from 3.

Georgia Cutt

The opening exchanges were tough as both sides tested each others defence with play going from end to end. It was the hosts who managed to break that dead lock when prop forward Rachael Baker crashed over at the side of the posts to give her side a 4-0 lead.

Wakefield’s pack were dealt a blow when powerful prop forward Anita Godfrey had to come off with a knee injury.

It wasn’t until 8 minutes before the interval that Trinity managed to return parity and it came through scrum half Georgia Cutt who showed fleet of foot to get over the line after Rebecca Brierley short pass near the line.

The hosts regained the lead just before the half time as centre Allana Walker went through a gap to score outside, the conversion unsuccessful to take a slender 8-4 advantage at the break.

Amy Brinkley

Changes were made at the interval by head coach Wayne Hirst and his side soon reaped the rewards as they took the lead for the first time of the afternoon. Winger Amy Brinkley continued to be dangerous with ball in hand and her step once again bamboozled the defense for her to cross. Second row Yasmin Copeland added the touchline conversion to put her side infront.

It was Copeland who spurred her team onto the eventual victory in a ‘Game Star’ performance adding a 2 self converted scores to see Wakefield home in the final stages of the game. The last of the efforts was undoubtedly the score of the game when several sets of slick hands saw Copeland link with centre Hannah Watt to cross the whitewash and seal the win.

Yasmin Copeland

Head coach Wayne Hirst was pleased with his sides 2018 progress saying “3 wins from 3 is a great start to the campaign, I’m really happy with our start. It was a tougher day at the office on Sunday against a decent Stanningly outfit. We didn’t start the game like we spoke about and they came at us hard early on and we struggled to contain them.”

“We found ourselves behind at half time, I think we made a lot of unforced errors and we put pressure on ourselves in that first half and generally couldn’t complete our sets in the right areas of the field. We changed a few things up at half time and stayed positive and I was pleased with the character we showed to fight back to a comfortable victory in the end. “

“I’m pleased with our progress so far in the Women’s championship obviously we’ve made a good start winning our opening 3 games but there’s still improvement in us. We’re taking each game as it comes and if need be grinding out wins but I’m hoping with each game were developing as individuals but more importantly as the ladies get more game time together, as a team.”

Rebecca Brierley

“With this weekends bank holidays the ladies game takes a break, Hirst continued ”We’ll be getting a bit of recovery into them with a light session and then I want to work on some areas I’ve picked up on in the first few games. We’ll then start looking at more game plan sessions when we start gearing up for Leigh Miners on May 13th.”

“It’ll be nice to be back at home against Leigh Miners, we’ve been on the road for two weeks now so it’ll be good to be play on the field we do our practice sessions at Sharlston Rovers. I’m hoping it’ll be a good turn out as its the first chance Trinity fans will have had the chance to see us live. Our first home game clashed with the men’s fixture, so with the Huddersfield Challenge Cup game being on the Friday night we’re hopeful it’ll be a bumper crowd.”

Wakefield Trinity Ladies backed up their season opening triumph last weekend with an emphatic 42-0 victory over Wigan St Patricks in the Women’s Championship.

Despite the heavy scoreline the game wasn’t always one way traffic as Trinity built their eventual accomplishment on a tenacious defensive attitude.

Claire Reynard (Mike Robey Photography)

Head coach Wayne Hirst was pleased with his charges start to the game saying “We spoke before the game that we didn’t know too much about our opposition and that didn’t really matter as long as our defence was resilient. I thought we worked hard on that, we put them under a lot pressure when they had the ball and we forced some errors which allowed us the gain more possession.”

That possession built into points when second rower Claire Reynard opened the scoring to take a 4-0 lead. Trinity piled on the pressure and some strong carries from forwards Phillippa Lockhart, Anita Godfrey and Jordan Catling put Wakefield within striking distance. Hooker Kelsey Armistead spotting half a gap and backing her self to cross the whitewash, scrum half Austin-Dyson added the extras.

Amy Brinkley (Mike Robey Photography)

The hosts who were fielding several new debutants couldn’t hold the attacking prowess of Trinity with Georgia Cutt looking threatening everytime she carried the ball. The Red White and Blue enjoyed a purple patch on the half-hour mark and raced into a commanding 22-0 lead with 3 unconverted tries. The first a superb individual effort from full back Amy Brinkley who fielded a kick on her own line and after some deceptive footwork showed pace to race the length of the field. Winger Dani Rose and her centre Michala Reith also got onto the score sheet with some strong running out wide.

Despite the deteriorating conditions Clare Reynard completed a first half brace of tries with a score just before the interval to give her side a commanding 26-0 lead.

The second half saw St Pats offering a much sterner defence effort and paired with problematic handling conditions contained red hot Trinity to just 3 second half scores and it was only resolute defence of Wakefield via Rebecca Brierley, Claire Reynard and Yasmin Copeland that kept the hosts scoreless.

Yasmin Copeland (Mike Robey Photography)

Full back Amy Brinkley went in for her second try of the afternoon to continue a great start to open age rugby in her second game for Wakefield. Georgie Cutt completed an all-round performance with a try which Austin-Dyson converted before the stand-off closed proceedings with a self converted try.

18 year old prop forward Jordan Catling was named game-star for the Wakefield Trinity Ladies with countless probing carries. A debut performance from new signing back rower Lisa Taylor also was a positive for the ladies.

Hirst said “I’m really pleased with the committed attitude the ladies put on show today. We scored some good tries but I’m most pleased with the nil. I thought we were excellent in defence today. We’ve started the season strongly but we’re not going to get too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve had some good numbers up training and with a 27 player squad they’re all pushing for a shirt each week. We’re starting to gel as a team and I’m excited for next week.”

Trinity will travel to last seasons Championship winners Stanningley in round 3 on Sunday 29th April. On the fixture Hirst said “This will be a good test of where we are in the league. Stanningley have been a capable outfit consistently and we have a few ladies who have played there so I’m sure they will be looking to put down a strong performance.”

The Wakefield Trinity Ladies team opened up their 2018 Women’s Championship campaign with a second half master class after taking a slender 2 point lead into the break against newly formed Hull FC Ladies.

Despite the Trinity mens game kicking off an hour after the ladies down the road at Belle Vue a sizable crowd was in attendance for the Red White and Blue first 2018 showing. Without any pre-season friendlies head coach Wayne Hirst was keen to see how his charges would fair in their first competitive outing and it was the hosts who started the brightest.

16 year old full back Amy Brinkley in her first open age season with the club began what would turn out to be a star performance when she returned a kick 60 meters down field which set up position for the opening score. After a few quick plays around the ruck from hooker Kelsey Armistead it was loose forward Rebecca Brierley who was too much to handle close to the line. Nicole Austin Dyson adding the extras from just to the side of the posts.

Trinity were able to extend their lead further on the 20 minute mark after some strong carries from winger Dani Rose lead to being camped on the Hull FC line. Recently introduced substitute Phillippa Lockhart managed to bulldozed her way under the posts with defender in tow. Austin-Dyson converted to try to put her side 12-0 up.

The visitors then enjoyed a purple patch when Trinity errors deep in their own half gave the Black and Whites several opportunities to score and influential scrum half Jenna Greening was held out on several occasions. On the half hour mark the line was eventually breached when winger Mia Duke took advantage of the overlap on the touch side to open her sides account.

Minutes before the interval Hull FC reduced the deficit to just 2 points with converted score by hooker Tanya Hannam who spotted a gap at marker to crash over. Full back Leanne Baggley converted at the half time whistle to pull Wakefield’s lead back to a slender 2 points.

The introduction of Georgia Cutt and Yasmin Copeland from the bench at half time gave Wakefield a visible lift. Cutt operating at Scrumhalf proved to be handful running the ball and crossed for the first try of two for the afternoon, Austin Dyson improving the score.

Second row Michala Reith was next on the scoresheet with a trademark barn storming run again Austin Dyson converting. Yasmin Copeland put the hosts into  more comfortable lead with the next score to lead 28-10 on the hour mark.

Wakefield finished the game strong adding another 3 unconverted scores, the first of which saw young prop forward Jordan Catling crossing on her debut before Cutt and Brierly closed the scoring with a try a piece to bag their respective braces.

Following his first victory in the new head coach position Wayne first said “It went really well, to say it was our first game thats we’ve played competitively. I still think there’s lots for us to work on but on a whole we got the win which was the most important thing and I got to see how the girls react in a game environment.”

“In the first half we set off really well and then we went into ourselves a little bit. Hull started getting on top of us and really came back at us. We spoke at half time that we needed to move up on them quicker in defence, not give them as much time with the ball and cut their thinking time down. We quickened up our play of the balls to put them on the back foot and eventually we broke them down.”

Hirst was encouraged by the unexpected numbers in attendance saying “I was pleasantly surprised how many people came down and watched especially with the mens team kicking off not long after our game. There were over hundred people at the game and I’m sure the ladies appreciated the support.”

While center stage has been on the opening round of the newly formed Women’s Super League this week. Wakefield are using this season to build their squad towards the inclusion in the elite competition in 2019.

After the game Hirst announced that Rebecca Brierly who captained the side in this first fixture would take up the honor for the remainder of the 2018 season with new recruit Kelsea Armistead taking up the vice captaincy role.

Hirst said “We spoke in pre-season that I didn’t want to name the captain until we’d played a game, to see who was vocal and a leader on the field. I did have an idea in training who I thought would be an ideal candidate. I named Rebecca Brierley as our captain for the day and I thought she stepped up and performed really. I thought she led the team around and was very positive throughout the match so going forward Beci will be the Wakefield captain for the 2018 season.

Kelsey Armistead will be our vice captain, she’s our hooker she’s also a very good talker and she moves us around the field well.”

In round two of the Women’s Championship Wakefield will travel to long established outfit Wigan St Patricks on Sunday 22nd April 2pm Kick Off.

Head coach Hirst explained “We’re back in training Monday so its a quick turn around for the girls. We’re not going to do much heavy work with them I just want to go through a few things I picked up on from the game. We’ve another session Wednesday and I’ll be looking to go through some game plan for Sundays upcoming fixture at Wigan St Pats which were anticipating to be a tough match.”

The recent Wakefield Trinity ladies open access recruitment day was well received by good numbers this weekend as the newly appointed head coach Wayne Hirst took his first training session.

Hirst said “It’s been really good, we’ve had a good response from the girls that have come down and they’ve interacted with us really well and I‘ve been impressed with the skill on show from a lot of them.”

Hirst continued, “We asked for some of our existing squad to come down to help out with the training session, it was good for me to see who I’m going to be working with in the pre-season and the upcoming year. The skill on show was really pleasing and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

As the men’s superleague side prepare for the kick off of Super League XXIII at Hull KR their female counterparts are gearing up for a tough pre-season in readiness for fixtures in April.

James Stephenson Head of community development at Trinity said “Wayne has put his plans together for a very good pre-season, we’re looking forward to seeing some good numbers down at the ladies base Sharlston Rovers on Monday 5th February. We’re really excited for this year, we’ve got a lot of work to do.  I think we’re going to see a lot of improvement and development in this group and drive forward into a strong position, ready to step up to the Women’s Super League in 2019.”

Assisting Hirst in the coaching department will be Becci Brierley and Claire Reynard who took the reins part way through last season and they are looking to continue where they left off last year.

Brierley said “I’m really looking forward to this year, to be back playing again after getting over my injury will be amazing and I’m hoping that being on the field with the ladies will benefit the team.  It’s exciting times, a new coach and a new adventure.  Last year was hard but we ended the season strongly and we seemed to click, it was just a little too late to get that playoff spot.”

Reynard added “It’s been good to get back together as a group after the off season and hopefully we can push on where we left off at the end of last season. I wouldn’t say I’m looking forward to pre-season but we need to push ourselves hard to get to where we need to be for when the fixtures start in April.”

This season the Trinity ladies will take a watching brief over the Women’s Super League which includes new teams like Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield, Widnes and St Helens.

Head coach Hirst also said: “This season is all about building a strong squad and culture at Wakefield so we’re in a solid position to transition into the Women’s Super League next season.  Today’s session has been open to all abilities we didn’t want to restrict it, we wanted to open the access to all.”

“I’ve played in the community game since 8-9 years old and I’m turning 40 this year and still playing in the National Conference league.  Hopefully I can draw on my experience in the game and pass on to the Trinity Ladies. I’ve also familiarity of the Girls game too coaching Shaw Cross Girls for the last 3-4 seasons. I’ve seen the girls game flourishing and I want to continue that into open age and promote the women’s game at Wakefield.”

The Ladies first preseason session takes place on Monday 5th February, at Sharlston Rovers, starting at 7pm and will continue weekly Mondays and Wednesdays.

Wakefield Trinity Ladies season came to a close this weekend as they hosted their final game of the Women’s Championship against top of the table unbeaten Stanningley. A victory would have seen Trinity progress into the play offs but two late tries in the second half put paid to dreams of silverwear in their first competitive season.

The visitors raced into a 16-0 victory in the opening quarter but the Trinity ladies didn’t allow their heads to drop and began to claw back the deficit. Paige Stevens powered over the line with a barnstorming run to open Trinity’s tally. Leading try scorer Yasmin Copeland continued her prolific run of form with the next score and Nicole Austin Dyson converted to bring her side within a converted score going into the interval 10-16.

The hosts dreams of making the playoffs were buoyed 10 minutes into the second half when Yasmin Copeland crossed for her second try of the afternoon and Austin-Dyson converted the effort to return parity 16-16.

Trinity were visibly lifted by the score and looked for the all important next try but it was the league leading visitors who showed their Championship winning resolve hitting the front once again. 5 minutes before the close Stanningley added gloss to their victory with an unconverted score to close out the season unbeaten.

Leigh Miners Rangers win at Barrow meant that Wakefield and Leigh ended the season tied with 5 league points but Trinity’s lesser points difference was the deciding factor the league standings.
