Second-half goals from Anna, Sophie and Emily, together with some excellent goalkeeping from Katie and fine defending early on, gave Buccs a 3-0 win over Cheltenham in their opening match.

A tremendous game against Isca saw Buccs battle back from 3-1 down to deservedly draw level through Sophie, Imogen and a well-executed penalty-corner flick from Olivia, only for their opponents grab a last-minute winner.

Buccs took confidence from their outstanding display, though, and went on to beat Taunton Vale 8-3 in their last match through goals from Ursie, Sophie (2), Lizzie, Emily, Chessy and Anna (2) to secure their place in the national finals at Whitgift School, Croydon, on January 20 and 21.

They aren’t the only successful club members as the Team Bath Buccaneers men’s team are through to the national finals of the Jaffa Super 6s Men’s Indoor Championships for the first time in their history.

Buccs confirmed their place in the televised showpiece event – taking place at London’s Copper Box Arena on Sunday, January 28 – after securing a top-four finish in the Premier Division.

They went into the second weekend of the league stages sitting at the top of the table after winning all four of their pre-Christmas matches.

Things proved to be more difficult at Bromsgrove School over the weekend as Buccs were beaten 6-3 by East Grinstead, 6-2 by Surbiton and 6-0 by eventual table-toppers Wimbledon.

However, a 4-4 draw with Sevenoaks, combined with their 100 per cent record from the previous round, meant Buccs had done more than enough to finish fourth overall and progress to the finals.

In the Buccs squad were University of Bath students Sam Anderson, Adam Croutier, Cam Heald, Josh Mardell, Stephen West, Oliver Wickens and Peter Scott, who is supported by a Trendell Sports Scholarship.

Ben Mackey was the third-highest scorer overall in the Premier Division with 14 goals.

Bowdon Hightown, Holcombe and Leicester will also compete for the title after finishing in the top four.

East Grinstead were 3-1 up after just 13 minutes against Clifton Robinsons. Helen Richardson-Walsh scored twice while Kate Richardson-Walsh, Abi Harper, Ashlie Caddick and Ellie Cockburn scored the rest.

Sutton Coldfield’s Vicky Woolford couldn’t help stop the East Grinstead onslaught despite scoring twice as Helen Richardson-Walsh scored her third and fourth goals of the day as East Grinstead won 5-3.

There were also two wins on the day for Bowdon Hightown who secured second spot with 19 points.

A double for Sally Walton and strikes from England and GB Olympians Tina Cullen and Sam Quek guided them to a 4-0 win over Canterbury, and in their second game against Slough, Walton once again scored twice as they won 5-2. Cullen also found the target twice and Quek added another.

Slough’s loss cost them their place at the finals with Leicester pipping them to fourth spot, finishing equal on points with third-placed Holcombe. It was Holcombe’s higher number of wins that saw them claim third.

Holcombe and Leicester played each other and the game was as tight as expected with Holcombe taking a 6-5 win.

With the scores tied 3-3 at the break, it was a Dirkie Chamberlain double and England and GB international Ellie Watton’s goal that finally sealed the win for Holcombe. Leicester’s Lauren Turner has been in top form and scored a hat-trick here.

In their second game of the day, Leicester faced bottom club Reading and won 8-1 with Chloe Rogers hitting a hat-trick. Turner added two more to her tally which now stands at an impressive 22.

Holcombe also played Reading and ran out 6-1 winners. Watton showed great form and hit four of her side’s goals.

It has been a campaign to forget for Reading who finish bottom without recording a single point. Sutton Coldfield finish second from bottom on five points.

Two more wins on Sunday put them two points clear at the top of the table, having beaten Canterbury 5-2 and Reading 6-0.

With GB Olympic aces Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh in their line-up, East Grinstead will be aiming to continue their good form and reach the finals which this year take place on January 28 at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Two goals from Kate Richardson-Walsh – plus others from Bara Kavanova, Pippa Chapman and captain Zoe Burrell – helped East Grinstead beat Canterbury.

And then Helen Richardson-Walsh also scored twice in their 6-0 win over Reading, with Kavanova also scoring a brace and Chapman and Ellie Cockburn adding the others.

Also unbeaten are Bowdon Hightown and Leicester, although draws on day one mean they are second and third respectively.

Bowdon Hightown were 5-1 winners over Reading in the day’s opening match, with 47-year-old GB Olympian Tina Cullen scoring two in that game.

And in their second match, Bowdon Hightown had another GB Olympic ace to thank for victory, with Sally Walton scoring a hat-trick to take her tally to four for the day and an impressive nine for the weekend.

That was only bettered by Leicester’s Lauren Turner who has 12 for the weekend. She scored a hat-trick in their first match of the day, beating Clifton Robinsons 5-4. And then she scored all six as Leicester beat Canterbury 6-2.

After losing both their games on Saturday, Holcombe turned things around well with two victories on Sunday.

They were 2-1 winners against last season’s champions Slough, then battled back from two-nil behind to win 5-3 against Sutton Coldfield in the day’s final match.

Rio Olympic gold medal winner Ellie Watton scored a hat-trick in the comeback win, taking her tally to four for the day and five for the weekend.

Slough bounced back from their loss to Holcombe with a 3-1 win over Clifton Robinsons, with Georgina Bathurst scoring two and Charly Brydon the other.

Day One

Ruth Gordon and Bara Kavanova both scored three goals for East Grinstead to help them top the early Premier Division table on day one of the Jaffa Women’s Super 6s Championship at the Phoenix Sport and Leisure Centre in Telford.

Kavanova scored a hat-trick in their 9-1 victory over Holcombe on Saturday, while Gordon scored twice and GB Olympic ace Helen Richardson-Walsh also got on the scoresheet.

And in the day’s penultimate match against reigning champions Slough, Gordon was also on the scoresheet as they ran out 3-2 winners.

Last season’s runners-up Canterbury also won both their matches on day one, beating Sutton Coldfield 2-1 and Holcombe 5-4 with Hayley Turner being their sharpshooter with three goals.

Bowdon Hightown were also unbeaten, but had to settle for a 3-3 draw with Leicester following a 5-1 win over Clifton Robinsons in their first match.

Former GB Olympic bronze medallist Sally Walton showed she is still a formidable force as she topped the scoring charts with five goals, three coming in the win over Clifton and two in the draw with Leicester.

Last season’s champions Slough got their day off to a good enough start with a 6-2 win over Reading, before losing out to East Grinstead. But they will be aiming to hit back on Sunday with four of their players having scored twice on day one – Mel Ball, Heather Batten, Charly Brydon and Georgie Whittaker.

Clifton Robinsons ran out 5-1 winners over Reading after having lost out to Bowdon Hightown with the scoreline, while Leicester had a frustrating day and finish with two draws having tied 4-4 with Sutton Coldfield as well as 3-3 with Bowdon Hightown.

Laura Puddle’s brace for Slough inspired the Pink and Blacks to a famous win and secured their spot in the afternoon’s Super 6s final. Puddle netted twice in the first half to put Slough in command and despite a brave display from Sutton Coldfield, Kat McGonigle’s team never looked back.

Puddle struck early on and then added her second in the 18^th minute. Beth Merriman pulled one back for Sutton Coldfield in the 25^th minute but just a minute later Harriet Ward’s strike restored the three-goal cushion and made sure Slough held on to make it to the final.

A hat-trick of penalty corners from Grace Balsdon secured Canterbury’s spot in the Super 6s Final, despite a valiant effort from Bowdon Hightown.  Balsdon’s deadly accuracy from the top of the circle proved to be a game changer and the Canterbury defender helped herself to goals in the ninth and 17^th minutes before Tina Cullen pulled one back for Bowdon Hightown. Eliza Brett notched a third for Canterbury and then Balsdon completed her hat-trick with six minutes remaining. Despite a late goal from Sally Walton, Canterbury were not to be denied and took their place in the final.

Slough captured their 14th Super 6s title and their first since 2008 with a hard-earned 2-0 win over Canterbury in the final. The Pink and Blacks struck through Dilly Newton and Georgie Whittaker to take home the title and spark glorious scenes at the end.

Slough scored early thanks to a well-taken penalty corner from Newton who found the net with unerring accuracy.

Canterbury hit back and Sarah Kerly’s mazy run and shot almost gave the crowd a wonderful goal but it flashed just wide. The Kent side continued to press and had a gilt-edged opportunity when Van Kemmel was brought down resulting in a penalty stroke. Grace Balsdon stepped up but Asha Tranquille-Day was her side’s hero, saving low to her right.

Before the break Slough doubled their lead when Whittaker seized on a loose ball, spun and slotted home making it 2-0 at the break.

Canterbury came out strongly in the second half. Balsdon had a penalty corner cleared off the line by Ash Bhogal. They began to exert pressure, building the play from the back with Balsdon dictating the tempo. Despite a couple of mazy runs from Kerly and some nice play from Nina Steikowski, the Kent side could not find a way through.

At the other end, Slough’s Charly Brydon made a brave run down the boards but her shot flashed wide of the post. With time running out Canterbury forced a penalty corner. With the ball slipped to Kerly it looked certain they’d score but Harriet Ward appeared from nowhere and made a great block. There was still time for Tranquille-Day to see off a penalty corner from Balsdon and with the clock running out Slough toasted their victory and another title.

Slough topped the standings after registering two wins on the day, the first of which came in a 5-2 victory over Holcombe, helped by an Ashpal Bhogal hat trick.

They then cemented top spot by beating bottom placed Buckingham 7-2 in the penultimate game of the day, Laura Bailey and Harriet Ward both scoring braces.

Canterbury wrapped up their qualification early, playing and winning twice in the first four games of the day.

They kicked off the day’s action with a 4-3 victory over Sutton Coldfield, captain Sarah Kerly leading her team with a brace.

Kerly hit two more in a 5-3 victory over Bowdon Hightown, who had already advanced to the finals at the SSE Arena Wembley before play commenced on Sunday.

After their loss to Canterbury, Sutton Coldfield knew only a win would see them qualify, as they took on Bowdon later in the afternoon.

Charlene Mason then Sally Walton had given Bowdon a first half lead, Walton with her 13^th of the tournament. But Sutton Coldfield hit back with Sarah Parkinson-Mills, Sophie Manning, Julie Stowe and Vicky Woolford all on target to give Sutton the final place at Wembley.

Two wins on the day was not enough for East Grinstead to continue the defence of their title, as they missed out on qualification by just two points, despite a 5-1 win over the University of Birmingham, and a 4-1 win over Reading.

Reading also missed out on finals day, but Georgina Bathurst has had a superb tournament. The leading scorer took her tally to 16 goals, including another hat trick in a 4-2 win over the University of Birmingham.

Holcombe were outsiders to qualify after their early loss to Slough, but they did sign off their campaign with a 7-1 win over Buckingham, Steph Elliott, Eleanor Watton and Harriet Pittard all scoring twice.

They defeated East Grinstead 6-2 in their opening game, with Tina Cullen scoring a brace, before they took on the only other unbeaten side in the final match of the day, Slough.

Sally Walton scored twice to take her tournament tally to ten goals, helping Bowdon to a 4-2 win and securing their place at the SSE Arena Wembley at the end of the month with two games still to play.

Sutton Coldfield sit second in the table and look well placed to join Bowdon, despite picking up one win and one defeat in Telford on Saturday.

They kicked off the days’ action with a 5-2 win over the University of Birmingham, before falling to a 4-3 defeat against Holcombe.

Previously unbeaten Slough had stretched their run to five matches before they were defeated by Bowdon. They condemned the University of Birmingham to their second loss of the day, 6-4, helped by a Harriet Ward brace.

Holcombe won both of their games on Saturday to stay in contention to qualify for finals day, Florencia Zappulla scored a last minute winner to give them three points in a 3-2 win over Reading.

Canterbury occupy the final qualification spot, leading Holcombe just on goal difference after a win and a defeat.

Grace Balsdon took her tally to eight for the tournament, hitting a brace in a 6-1 win over Buckingham, before they went down 7-3 to Reading, a game in which competition leading scorer Georgina Bathurst scored four times.

In the day’s other game, East Grinstead kept their hopes of defending the title alive after beating bottom side Buckingham 4-1.

Despite a brace from Sally Walton, Ashlie Caddick scored a late equaliser that saw them held to a 3-3 draw in their opening game of the day against Reading.

Walton took her tournament tally to seven goals in the final game of the day though, a 4-2 win over Holcombe ensuring Bowdon end the weekend top of the table and unbeaten with ten points.

Sutton Coldfield picked up two wins on Sunday, edging out Buckingham 2-1 before coming from behind to beat East Grinstead 4-3 with captain Vicky Woolford and Sarah Parkinson-Mills on target in both matches.

Slough remained unbeaten but drop to third in the standings. They opened up the day’s action with a 3-3 draw against Reading, then came from behind to beat Canterbury 3-2 thanks to second half strikes from Dilly Newton and Harriet Ward.

After conceding 20 goals on Saturday, Buckingham recorded their first win of the competition, a 4-3 over the University of Birmingham with Lottie Porter scoring a last-minute winner.

Birmingham did lose 6-2 earlier in the day to Canterbury, a game which saw Grace Balsdon hit the back of the net four times.

In the remaining game, East Grinstead registered their first win of the tournament, running out 2-1 winners over Holcombe. Emma Lee-Smith and Bara Kavanova scoring for East Grinstead, with Leigh Maasdorp pulling one back in the second half.
