Five tries from Jess Breach and a hat-trick from Abby Dow helped the Red Roses complete a 3-0 Old Mutual Wealth Series whitewash over Canada with a 69-19 victory at Twickenham Stadium.

England were ahead in the seventh minute from a driving maul when Marlie Packer dotted down and Dow did superbly to gather Katy Daley-Mclean’s grubber kick for her first of the evening.

Breach crossed from a burst of pace around the outside, before Canada responded as Olivia De Merchant showed her power as she went over from close range.

Dow’s second and third came with smart finishes out wide before Breach’s second gave England a 38-7 half-time lead.

Canada’s Pamphinette Buisa got the first score of the second half but England responded through their powerful maul as a penalty try was awarded as they were driving over the line.

Canada then got their own penalty try following a high tackle, but Breach secured her hat-trick, before a run from deep inside her own half sealed a fourth, and another line break from the halfway line took the tally to five.

Ellie Kildunne completed the scoring when she collected another Daley-Mclean kick through, as England ran in 11 tries on night.

Head coach Simon Middleton said: “We knew Canada would come out strong in the final game and I really wanted the team to put in a more complete performance. We had a great start, maybe lost our way a little bit at the start of the second half, but overall we are absolutely thrilled with what the team delivered today.

“It’s been a great experience and introduction to international rugby for the new players, they have been outstanding. As a team we have maximised the opportunity we had in this series and you can’t ask for more than that.”

England Women head coach Simon Middleton makes eight changes, two positional, in his starting 15 ahead of the Red Roses’ second Test against Canada at Twickenham Stoop (KO 19:45, live Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Action & Sky Sports Mix).

Captain Sarah Hunter is set to earn her 100th international cap for England, starting at No.8 on Tuesday. Awarded World Rugby Player of the year in 2016, Hunter first made her debut for England in 2007 and since has scored 19 tries for the Red Roses.

Three uncapped players have also been included in the squad with forwards Catherine O’Donnell (Loughborough Lightning) and Jo Brown (Darlington Mowden Park Sharks) named in the starting line-up and back, Lagi Tuima (Bristol Ladies) set to come off the bench.

In the backline, Ellie Kildunne (Gloucester-Hartpury) earns her first start for England at full-back, alongside wingers, Jess Breach (Harlequins Ladies), who scored six tries on her debut last Friday and Charlotte Clapp (Saracens Women), who last featured for England in 2016 against USA.

Leanne Riley (Harlequins Ladies) and Katy Daley-Mclean (Darlington Mowden Park Sharks) again start at nine and ten alongside centres Amber Reed (Bristol Ladies) and Rachael Burford (Harlequins Ladies).

In the scrum Rochelle Clark (Wasps FC Ladies) and Amy Cokayne (Wasps FC Ladies) – who both scored tries in the opening Test – start alongside Heather Kerr (Darlington Mowden Park Sharks).

Tamara Taylor (Darlington Mowden Park Sharks) makes her first start of the series and is joined by Catherine O’Donnell (Loughborough Lightning), who will earn her first cap for England in the second row.

Marlie Packer (Saracens Women), Jo Brown (Darlington Mowden Park Sharks) and captain Sarah Hunter (Loughborough Lightning) make up the back row.

World Cup finalists Abbie Scott (Harlequins Ladies), Vickii Cornborough (Harlequins Ladies) and Izzy Noel-Smith, who is set to make her first appearance of the series are named as finishers. Lark Davies (Worcester Valkyries) and newly capped players Hannah Botterman (Saracens Women), Zoe Harrison (Saracens Women) and Caity Mattinson (Bristol Ladies) are also named on the bench alongside Lagi Tuima (Bristol Ladies) who is set to make her international debut.

Simon Middleton said “What we are looking for in tomorrow’s game is consistency of performance. We haven’t made wholesale changes as we want to maintain core stability and that’s been the approach with this particular side. We have mixed the forwards a bit more and the backs remain stable, with that we know we will create opportunities to get the younger players on the ball again and give them a chance to shine.

“We said from the outset that we would select a squad that we feel can deliver a winning performance and we are confident this team, can deliver on that.”

Middleton added: “Sarah Hunter is an incredible player and the ultimate professional. She has the highest standards in everything that she does, both on and off the pitch. A true leader, ultra-composed and rational but at the same time has real steel in her, she manages the team brilliantly.

“To achieve 100 caps in a career is truly special, Sarah should be immensely proud.”

Red Roses wing Jessica Breach scored six tries on her debut as England beat Canada 79-5 in their 2017 Old Mutual Wealth Series opener at Allianz Park.

In their first game since the Women’s Rugby World Cup final, England put in a dominant performance as they ran in 13 tries in North London.

With her first touch in international rugby, winger Breach showed a superb burst of pace out wide to score in the corner for the opening points at 5 minutes.

Rachel Burford was next to score and was soon followed by Breach, who scored her second and third in quick succession. Abby Dow next crossed the whitewash, scoring a try on her debut, making it 29-0 to England at the break.

The scoring continued in the second half as Breach crossed over in the opening minutes. Further tries followed from hooker Amy Cokayne, Breach again for her fifth, and man of the match Marlie Packer who also dotted down.

Canada were next to put points on the board with number 8, Cindy Nelles scoring their only try of the game.

Dow then crossed over for a second time at the 62nd minute, with Breach securing her sixth try just two minutes later. Rochelle Clark, England’s most capped player, crossed the line from close range with debutant Ellie Kildunne scoring England’s last try of the game.

England head coach Simon Middleton: “I’m thrilled really as we wanted to get some certain things out of the game and we got them tonight.

“Particularly our defence, I know it’s easy when you score nearly 80 points but that is a big work on as we weren’t good enough at the World Cup.

“Some of our attacking play was great and we did what we said we wanted to do which was get the gas on the ball on the edges. When you’ve got an axis of Katy Daley-Mclean, Rachel Burford and Amber Reed in the middle, you’re not going to be short of ball on the edge.

“I’m really pleased for them as right across the board all the girls played well tonight and everybody who came on for their debut did a great job.”

Worcester Valkyries captain Lark Davies has been named among the England Women replacements for Friday evening’s first Test against Canada at Allianz Park (kick-off 7.30pm, live stream on Englandrugby.com).

The Valkyries hooker will be hoping to add to her three international caps as England look to continue their fine record against Canada, having beaten them 21 times in 25 attempts, including the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup final.

The two sides most recently met in Christchurch, New Zealand during the International Women’s Rugby Series in June, with England securing a hard fought 27-20 win.

Head Coach Simon Middleton has named seven uncapped players in the squad while former Valkyries star Rochelle Clark is also named on the bench alongside Davies.

Middleton said “Our priority is to win the series and keep our winning momentum going from last season. With selection, we said from the outset we would pick on form, selecting players who are playing outstandingly well for their clubs. It’s a strong blend of youth and experience.

“I’m excited to see what the new, young players will bring win terms of their skill sets and pace. As a group they are very accomplished and have earned selection based on merit. That’s real testimony to the pathway, the Under 20s and the work they have been doing in their clubs. Alongside our more experienced players we know they will be given a great platform to play off and we have full confidence they will showcase their talents.”

27 players have convened at Bisham Abbey ahead of England’s first Test of the Old Mutual Wealth Series against Canada on Friday 17th November at Allianz Park (KO 19:30, livestream on englandrugby.com).

Catherine O’Donnell (Loughborough Lightning) and England Women U20s player Hannah Botterman (Saracens Women) have been called up to join the England squad for the first time.

Both players come as replacements for Sarah Bern (Gloucester-Hartpury) and Harriett Millar-Mills (Wasps FC Ladies). Bern has been ruled out of the Old Mutual Wealth Series with an injury (foot) and Millar-Mills for the rest of the season after picking up a long term injury (knee).

Non EPS player Shaunagh Brown (Harlequins Ladies) has also been called up to join the squad ahead of the first Test.

England Women head coach Simon Middleton said: “We will be focussed on bringing the squad together, which combines exciting young talent and more experienced players, ensuring we are fully prepared to take on Canada in the opening Test this Friday.

“Catherine O’Donnell and Hannah Botterman, who have been called up, offer the characteristics that we are looking to see from the team this year, playing a confrontational style of rugby and we feel they will add an edge to the side. While Shaunagh Brown (pictured above) has earned the opportunity to join the squad ahead of the first Test, after putting in consistently outstanding performances in the Tyrrells Premier 15s this season. We are looking forward to seeing what she can bring to the international setup.”

“Sadly Harriett Millar-Mills will not feature this season after picking up a long-term injury ahead of camp. She delivered some incredible performances this season in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, we wish her the best with her recovery. We feel for Sarah Bern who will also miss the series through injury, which was picked up on club duty, but we know she will be working hard to over the next couple of months to be back in contention ahead of the Six Nations.”

Izzy Noel Smith (Bristol Ladies) and Justine Lucas (Wasps FC Ladies) will join up with the squad later in the week. Lucas will continue her rehabilitation with England after picking up an injury (ankle) last month.

England Women will take on Canada in back-to-back games across the three match series with the first game to be played at Allianz Park on Friday 17th November, kick off 19:30, live stream via Englandrugby.com.

The two sides will next meet in a mid-week fixture at The Stoop on Tuesday 21st November, kick off 19:45, before playing in the series finale at Twickenham Stadium, kick off at 17:40 (live Sky Sports Arena & Sky Sports Mix) with free entry after the men’s game against Samoa.

England Women Head Coach Simon Middleton said: “2017 has been an exceptional year for women’s rugby at international level with the team securing a Six Nations Grand Slam, a whitewash tour in New Zealand in June and reaching the final of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

We want to continue to build on the successes of last season and are looking forward to taking on Canada, a world-class side, in what will be a demanding three-Test series in November.”

England has played Canada a total of 25 times, winning 21 of those, including the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup final. The two sides most recently met in Christchurch, New Zealand during the International Womens Rugby Series in June, with England securing a hard fought 27-20 win.

Tickets for the England Women Old Mutual Wealth series will be available via EnglandRugby.com/tickets from 9am on Friday 29th September.

England Women finished the Old Mutual Wealth Series with a seven-try victory over Canada at Twickenham on Saturday.

Alex Matthews opened the scoring for the Red Roses before Amy Cokayne went over for England’s second from a driving maul, the side’s fifth such try in four autumn Tests.

Danielle Waterman then scored an impressive solo try as she weaved in and out of Canadian defenders from her own 22, in her first Test at the Twickenham since 2011. However Canada responded with two Andrea Burk penalties to leave them only nine points behind at half-time.

England returned for the second half maintaining the tempo of the first with Kay Wilson showing electric pace to put down in the corner.

Emily Scarratt then raced away four minutes later to score their fifth before Lydia Thompson scored her second in as many games as England showed their attacking prowess.

Replacement Claire Allan dived over in the corner 14 minutes from time as England rounded off 2016 with an impressive win in front of a home crowd of over 12,000.

Head coach Simon Middleton said: “That was a brilliant way to end the Series. I am really pleased with the manner in which the team executed our game plan.

“It is always special to come out and play at Twickenham and the girls certainly delivered a great performance, both in attack and defence. There is still a lot for us to work on, but that has given us confidence today.”

The result reinstated England to second in the World Rankings behind New Zealand, after they had slipped down to third to Canada following the 20-25 defeat last weekend by the Black Ferns.

The Red Roses also exacted revenge for the 52-17 loss to the Canadians in Salt Lake City in the Summer Series in July.

Captain Sarah Hunter said: “It was the response we needed as a team, we’ve talked quite honestly during the week about where it went wrong against New Zealand.

“We scored seven tries tonight against a good Canada side, and to back that up we had a world-class defence. You talk about defence winning games at times, we stifled them really well. They put huge pressure on us and came close to our line but we held strong. We want to have a world-class defence heading into the World Cup next year and we’ve certainly started to build that.”

Simon Middleton has made six changes to his starting 15 for England Women’s final Old Mutual Wealth Series Test against Canada on Saturday at Twickenham, KO 5.05pm.

Broadcast live on Sky Sports and BBC 5 Live Sports Extra, this fourth autumn Test provides the Red Roses with the opportunity to finish the series with a victory following their disappointing defeat to the Black Ferns last weekend.

With Fiona Pocock and Vicky Fleetwood ruled out through injury, Richmond wing Kay Wilson and flanker Alex Matthews return to the starting line-up. Bristol back Megan Jones comes into the squad on the bench for the first time this series in search of her second senior England cap.

Aylesford Bulls inside centre Rachael Burford starts to earn her 60th international appearance.

Head Coach Simon Middleton said: “Since last weekend we have reflected, regrouped and worked hard to address the aspects which didn’t go our way. We want to end the Old Mutual Wealth Series with a win and know Canada will do their best to prevent that.

“It is always great to follow the men out and play at Twickenham, and we look forward to strong support from the home crowd.”

The side have also notched up wins against France 10-5 on 9 November for the Old Mutual Wealth Series opener and Ireland 10-2 in Dublin on 13 November.

Canada Women took on New Zealand in Dublin yesterday with the Black Ferns securing a 20-10 victory. Since England’s 2014 Women’s World Cup Final win over Canada, the two sides have met twice with one win each. England secured a tight 14-15 victory in Edmonton in July 2015 before meeting again in this summer’s Super Series in Salt Lake City where the Canadians took a convincing 52-17 win.
