Here’s how you can experience the buzz of running on the streets of the capital this July.

With tens of thousands of runners taking to the streets of London for last weekend’s marathon, many of us will be eyeing our running shoes and feeling inspired to do similar.

And the good news for those looking to experience the buzz of running through London’s most-iconic streets in front of cheering crowds is that there are still general entry places available for the ASICS London 10k on 9 July.

The event has fast become one of the world’s leading city centre 10ks and with live bands and DJs lining the route alongside the thousands of cheering supporters, runners are guaranteed an amazing experience.

And just like the London Marathon the 10k route takes in all the iconic sights of the capital.

Starting on the edge of Green Park, just a short walk from Buckingham Palace, the route includes Westminster Bridge, the London Eye, Embankment, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, and The Strand, before finishing on Whitehall, just past Downing Street.

The course is flat and perfect for beginners or anyone chasing a PB and organisers LimeLight Sports Club is also leading the way in terms of reducing the environmental impact of mass-participation running events and has confirmed this year’s race will, for the first-time ever, be net zero.

Craig Dews, CEO of LimeLight Sports Club, said: “The ASICS London 10k is a fantastic event and now rightly considered the most iconic 10k in the world.

“Not only does the route pass all the buildings and locations you would want from a run in the capital, but the support our runners get from the thousands of people who line the streets on race day is amazing and helps generate an experience our participants never forget.

“Whether you ran the London Marathon and want another go racing on the streets of London, or you’re looking to experience London’s unrivalled atmosphere for the first time, this is a race for everyone and one not to be missed.”

Entry is currently just £45, however a price rise is incoming from 2 May. Don’t miss out on the current price, book now at: https://limelightsports.club/event/asics-london-10k-2023.

The England Women Sevens squad who will play inter-squad exhibition matches at this weekend’s London 7s (28-29 May, Twickenham Stadium) has been named.

The 22-player group is made up of core sevens players, players who have represented England U20s this season as well as those who have stood out in England Sevens camps and in the Allianz Premier 15s throughout the 2021/22 campaign.

Core players Ellie Boatman, Abbie Brown, Abi Burton, Heather Cowell, Grace Crompton, Amy Wilson Hardy, Alicia Maude, Isla Norman-Bell and Jodie Ounsley are selected.

British Army’s Courtney Pursglove joins the group alongside England U20s’ Maisy Allen, Jenny Hesketh, Nikita Prothero, Georgina Tasker, Ella Lovibond and Holly Thorpe.

Harlequins’ Lagi Tuima is included and joined by Loughborough Lightning duo Emma Hardy and Jess Weaver.

Lauren Torley and Jade Shekells have featured in recent sevens tournaments and return while Vicky Laflin (Worcester Warriors) is selected.

The teams will play three matches across the weekend. On Saturday England Women will be on the pitch immediately after the last scheduled men’s match (KO 18.55) and on Sunday they kick off the day (KO 9.00) and then return to the pitch between match 41 and 42 (KO 16.09).

London follows the sevens’ participation in the Toulouse leg of the World Series and will act as key preparation for the home Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham this summer.

Rodwell said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for the group and one we’re all looking forward to.

“The chance to play in an England shirt anywhere in the world is a huge honour but to do it in front of home support including friends and family is something a number of these players will get to do for the first time which will be special.

“We have an exciting summer coming up with European legs in Zagreb and Budapest followed by a home Commonwealth Games and these intersqaud games will be paramount and are an opportunity for players to put their hands up for selection across the summer too.

“All of the players selected have performed well in training and matches and thoroughly deserve the opportunity to play at Twickenham in front of a home crowd.

“We as a sevens programme are passionate about inspiring the next generation of players within England and want to showcase the sport. That’s our aim come Saturday.”

England Women’s Head Coach Simon Middleton has recalled Rachael Burford and Kay Wilson for the penultimate round of the Sevens World Series at the Twickenham Stoop and at Twickenham Stadium on May 15 & 16.

Burford missed the last round of the series in Canada due to injury while Wilson will make her first start of the series having also been side-lined with injuries all season. Burford and Wilson replace Leanne Riley and Sarah McKenna in the squad.

“Experience will be key for this leg of the series and both Rachael and Kay, who are experienced sevens players and also World Cup winners, offer us that,” said Middleton. “Both Leanne and Sarah did a good job in Canada but these players will give us all round experience across the park and will balance up the squad nicely.

“It is also great to welcome Kay into the tournament squad. She has been so unlucky with injuries this season but she has been training really well and showed such positivity throughout the year.”

London will make its World Series debut next week, with all of the action at the Twickenham Stoop before the third and fourth place play-offs and the final is staged at Twickenham Stadium as part of the Marriott London Sevens.

The tournament has extra significance for the hosts though as England still have work to do to secure a top four finish in the series which would ensure automatic qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games. England are currently sixth in the series standings with the final round in Amsterdam on May 22 & 23.

“Having the World Series here in our own back yard is going to be a great occasion,” added Middleton. “We are looking forward to showing the English public first-hand what Sevens World Series rugby is all about.”

“At the same time though, it is really important we prepare as normally as possible. Our full attention must be about getting our performance right which is what we did in Canada and we finished third there. We know we need to get to the semi-finals again, and finish above our nearest rivals but we can’t lose our performance focus. First and foremost we’ll be concentrating on South Africa for game one, and we’ll continue to take it one game at a time, with Russia next and then Canada.”
