A double from Margot Zuidhof guided the Netherlands to a 4-0 win over Great Britain at the FIH Champions Trophy in China.

Marijn Veen opened the scoring before Zuidhof grabbed her first as the Dutch built a 2-0 lead at half time. Ginella Zebro fired in the third before Zuidhof completed the scoring in the final quarter.

GB now face Argentina on Saturday morning with the winner likely to secure a place in the bronze medal match unless Japan beat Australia.

The Netherlands were ahead inside just three minutes when Veer found the back of the net. GB failed to clear their lines and Veer collected, kept her cool and flicked on the reverse into the empty goal.

A fine flowing team move then doubled their lead in the second quarter. Attacking down the left the ball eventually was laid back to Zuidhof who spun and sent the ball into the backboard.

Zebro grabbed the third with a well struck hit on the reverse before Zuidhof scored her second from close range to make it 4-0 in the final quarter.

Two goals from Hazuki Nagai helped Japan come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Great Britain at the FIH Champions Trophy in China.

Strikes from Sophie Bray and Tessa Howard put Great Britain in a 2-0 first quarter lead but Nagai pulled one back for Japan before half-time.

Nagai grabbed the equaliser in the third quarter from a penalty corner and despite their both efforts neither side could grab a winner in the closing stages.

GB flew out the traps and took the lead on four minutes through Sophie Bray. A neat team move saw a number of passes exchanged moving the ball into the circle before it was squared to Bray to finish from close range.

The lead was doubled soon after as Howard won the ball and powered into the circle before slapping hard into the bottom corner while falling to the ground to grab her first international goal.

Japan responded well after the first break and pulled a goal back immediately. A defensive error allowed Japan a two on one with the keeper and the ball was passed to Nagai to pass into an empty net as they halved the deficit before the half-time break.

An even third quarter followed but Japan ended it strongly and after a flurry of penalty corners grabbed an equaliser. From a penalty corner Nagai grabbed her second as she slapped low into the bottom corner past Sabbie Heesh.

Both sides had chances to move ahead and claim three points but they weren’t taken meaning the spoils were shared.

Next up for Great Britain are world number one side the Netherlands who they play at 10am GMT on Thursday morning live on BT Sport.

Great Britain were defeated by Australia in their second match at the FIH Women’s Champions Trophy in China.

First half goals from Brooke Peris and Kalindi Commerford put Australia into a 2-0 lead which they held onto in the second half.

Australia moved into the lead on nine minutes through Peris. Goalkeeper Amy Tennant cleared the ball wide to Greta Hayes who hit a cross to Peris on the back post where she deflected the ball high into the corner.

Great Britain improved in the second-quarter, dominating possession and putting pressure on the Australia back line but they conceded again on the stroke of half-time. Commerford collected the ball at the top of the circle, moving past her marker and slapping into the bottom corner.

There was plenty of attacking intent from GB in the second half but Australia defended well restricting the likes of Hannah Martin and Sarah Robertson to half chances while Rachael Lynch was in solid form in goal.

Next up for Great Britain are Japan at 10am GMT on Tuesday morning as they look to clinch their first win of the tournament.

Great Britain twice came from behind to draw their FIH Champions Trophy opener against hosts China in Changzhou.

China took the lead through Xu Wenyu whose deflection from a penalty corner found its way past Sabbie Heesh in the GB goal on seven minutes.

With just five seconds remaining in the first quarter GB levelled through Martin, Sarah Jones made the clever pass allowing Martin to round the keeper and fire home on the reverse.

After 21 minutes China were back in front as Peng Yang pounced on a rebound to slap home but GB levelled immediately as Owsley unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

The second half saw both sides largely cancelling each other out as chances became few and far between. There were some frantic moments in the closing stages and both sides pushed to grab a winner but the spoils were shared.

Next up for Great Britain are Australia tomorrow morning at 6am UK time. The match will be shown live on BT Sport.
