And raise over £300,000 for charity

More than 1,500 walkers, joggers and runners descended on Oxfordshire this weekend to take on the Chiltern 50 Ultra Challenge, raising over £300,000 for charity.

Starting and finishing at Henley Showground, participants tackled 50km, 25km and 10km challenge options, travelling through the rolling hills, ancient woodlands and picturesque villages that make the Chilterns one of England’s most celebrated landscapes.

The fully supported routes took challengers along sections of Shakespeare’s Way, the Chiltern Way, riverside paths and historic countryside trails, providing a memorable experience for both seasoned endurance athletes and those taking part in their first mass-participation challenge.

Challengers travelled from across the UK to take part, bringing an influx of visitors to Henley-on-Thames and surrounding communities throughout the weekend. Local businesses including hotels, pubs, cafés and shops benefited from increased footfall as challengers and supporters explored the area before and after the event.

As part of the Ultra Challenge Series, thousands of pounds were raised for a wide range of charitable causes, with participants taking on their chosen distance in support of organisations and causes close to their hearts.

Nicola Smith, Commercial Director at Ultra Challenge, said: “The Chiltern 50 is always a fantastic event and it was brilliant to welcome more than 1,500 participants to Henley and the surrounding countryside this weekend.

“From first-time challengers taking on their first 10km challenge through to experienced ultra-distance participants completing the full 50km route, there was an incredible sense of achievement throughout the day.

“The Chilterns provides a truly stunning backdrop for the event, and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the region’s trails, villages and landscapes while raising vital funds for charity.

“We’re incredibly proud of every participant who crossed the finish line and grateful to the volunteers, support teams and local communities who helped make the event such a success.”

Throughout the challenge, participants were supported by fully staffed rest stops, medical and welfare teams, and event crews positioned across the route to help challengers reach the finish line safely and enjoyably.

>With another successful Chiltern 50 complete, organisers have already opened entries for next year’s event, with places expected to prove popular once again.
