Northern Diamonds vs Sunrisers at Headingley, Leeds on 14 September 2024
Top-of-table Diamonds went down to a shock defeat at home to Sunrisers, who qualify for their inaugural final at fifty-overs. Last year’s defending champions posted a defendable score, but as commentators pointed out early-on it was by no means ’a straightforward game, with Diamonds batters peppered by ‘dot’ balls. Sunrisers played one of their best innings all season, reaching 120/2 by mid-way. Central to Sunrisers’ success was a century (123-runs) third-wicket partnership between Cordelia Griffith – pictured [68runs (from 89 balls)] with back-to-back ‘fifties;’ and Jodi Grewcock [63*not out(68)] who saw Sunrisers home. In summary, home-team commentators conceded that Diamonds received a ‘fair thrashing’ and weren’t playing ‘at their best’ in their last match. Victorious Sunrisers will play South East Stars in their up-coming trophy final at Leicester, scheduled for 21 September.
