The Hundred Trophy 2024 – match 8 – Superchargers vs Brave

  • +1

Northern Superchargers vs Southern Brave at Leeds (Headingley) on 30 July 2024

North-South Derby that will be remembered for a remarkable last-ball tied-match, the first time such an event has happened (to-date.) Lauren Bell (pictured) received POTM ‘Meerkat match hero’ cap-and-medal for restricting Superchargers batters, taking most wickets [4-fer] (4/11.) When batting, Lauren Bell also chalked-up 10*not out at top strike-rate of two runs-per-ball. When bowling the final ‘death’ over that tied the match, Lauren Bell mentioned her ideal ball was the ‘straight yorker.’ Commentators mentioned that each team arrived at Headingley without any points, played a ‘tie’ that came down to the final ball; and departed happily, having shared one point each. Noted separately that 100 runs was by no means Brave’s lowest score, that was 73/10 when they played against Invincibles, winners of the first women’s final (2021.) Introduced by Nick ‘Knighty’ Knight (broadcaster & former England international) with Ebony Rainford Brent MBE (broadcaster & former England international – director Women’s cricket at Surrey); Natalie Germanos (broadcaster & actress from Rep. South Africa TV); Charles Dagnall (broadcaster & former county player), Dominic Cork (Head Coach at Derbyshire Falcons & former England international.) Also with Dinesh Karthik (former India international) who interviewed Linsey Smith (Superchargers) pitch-side, between innings. Weather was cloudy but dry 20C.
