Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2024 – match 37

  • +1

Central Sparks vs Western Storm at Worcester (New Road) on 12 July 2024 at 09:30

Previously, commentators described the pitch as a ’sticky wicket’ that was difficult to bat on. A ‘star performance’ from guest Australian Amanda-Jade Wellington (pictured) proved crucial, by making top-score [83 runs (from 53 balls)] during a century 6th wicket stand with Storm’s Sophie Luff who scored a skipper’s ‘fifty.’ Sparks stand-out bowler was Katie George (recruited from Storm) who took a 5-fer. Between innings, commentators explained that Issy Wong (loaned by Sparks) had needed formal permission to play ‘on loan’ and ‘had a point to prove.’ Commentator’s curse struck with successive balls. Issy Wong (3/20) firstly bowled Sparks skipper; and secondly had Spark’s keeper caught by fellow keeper – both falling for golden ducks. Issy Wong’s third wicket reduced Sparks to 11/3. Separately, continuing her star performance (mentioned above) Amanda-Jade Wellington trapped Sparks’ top-scorer Davina Perrin ‘leg before,’ as one of three Sparks batters who posted double-figures. Storm’s ‘comprehensive win,’ lifts them from 8th place. Pressure remains on both teams as main contenders for the wooden spoon. Commentators were Michael ‘Mike’ Perkins (Sports journalist) with Carol Camino (former Worcs & Middx women) and Sarah Ginn (West Midlands women’s league Coach & Manager.) Weather: cloudy, mainly dry with sunny spells, 17C.
