Harlequins have announced the signing of Springbok Women’s second-row Danelle Lochner for the 2023/24 Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby season.

Lochner is a dual international having represented South Africa in both netball and rugby. She made her Springbok Women’s debut in 2022 and has been a mainstay in the South African second-row since.

Lochner joins her international teammates Babalwa Latsha and Aseza Hele in South West London, the trio will link up with the rest of the Harlequins squad in the coming weeks following their WXV campaign in Cape Town.

Commenting on her signing, Lochner said: “I am really grateful for this massive opportunity and extremely excited to get stuck in with the Quins family. I can’t wait to learn from the best in the business”.

Harlequins Head Coach Amy Turner said: “Danelle is a naturally talented athlete, who has transitioned well from netball into rugby over the past couple of years. She’s very dextrous and is a physically imposing player, who fits well with how we want to play the game and the DNA of a Club like Harlequins.

“We’re excited to see how she develops in the environment alongside experienced internationals in Sarah (Bonar), Abbie (Fleming) and Kaitlan (Leaney), and look forward to welcoming her and all our other internationals back over the coming weeks.”
