  • +1

North West Thunder vs South East Stars on 4 June 2023 (14h30): at Blackpool (Stanley Park)

With the presence of key England players (including Emma Lamb) in Thunder’s team but noticeably absent from Stars, LancsTV commentators commended Thunder for their strong performance. As Thunder’s stand-out performer, Emma Lamb top-scored with 63 runs (from 38 balls) and took 2/17. Commentators sat inside a tent, were Mike Perkins (Sports journalist) and Paige Caunce (HerGameToo.) Video highlights from ECB online (NV Play) edited from Lancs TV coverage: please see below. Blackpool weather was warm and sunny, with clear blue sky.

Match summary: Thunder’s Emma Lamb top-scored, together with Fi Morris putting on 59 runs for Thunder’s 2nd wicket. Thunder lost key batters (West Indies Superstar Deandre Dottin and their skipper) during the same over to spinner Danielle Gregory, both for single-figures. By comparison, Stars’ skipper Bryony Smith with in-form batter Paige Scholfield opened with 87 without loss. Once both openers fell 3 balls apart to newbie Olivia Bell (2/16) Stars receded to 95/4. Stars continued to lose their wickets at regular intervals. After 16.4 overs (100 balls): Thunder (at 128/4) had 4 wickets’ advantage (vs Stars 132/8): and seemed confident to win, as Stars’ required-run-rate passed 2 runs-per-ball. With both sides looking for their third win, optimistic commentators lauded Thunder’s good win, ‘needing to pass Vipers’ & ‘stand any chance’ of their team making the semi-final. For Stars, the match was a ‘dead rubber’ with insufficient points and lower net-run-rate to qualify for finals day.
