A Brighter Future? – Wales Women Autumn Squad announced

  • +1

Ioan Cunningham has announced 38 names of players to form the Welsh squad for three autumn internationals.

After the long lay-off he wants to expose as many players as possible to the training methods and expectations of the new management team. The broader the base, the more the competition for places, which can only benefit Wales.

He has added the former captain, Carys Phillips (Worcester) and Jess Roberts (Sale).

There are 21 forwards and 17 backs.

They face a favourable line-up of matches, their toughest challenge, against the Maple Leafs, coming last after Japan and South Africa.

If they can reproduce the form of their leading players in the AP 15s, notably at Bristol, then they can look forward to a much needed upturn in their fortunes.

Autumn has always been the time for spreading the net wider; on this occasion it is not only the 6 Nations Cunningham has in mind but a World Cup.
