‘Western Storm Women’ vs ‘Sunrisers’ at Bristol on 18 September (Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy – round 7)

Making top score of the day, ‘Storm’ skipper Sophie Luff (157* runs from 142 balls) staged four decisive partnerships.

*Firstly, with opener Fi Morris, Luff saw ‘Storm’ through the power-play (47/1); following which Morris was caught by Sonali Patel from Mady Villiers (2/39.)

*Luff’s 2nd partnership with Georgia Hennessy guided ‘Storm past the 100 ball benchmark (74/2.)

*By mid-way, ‘Storm’ were 109/2. Luff’s ‘fifty’ followed during the 27th over, followed by Hennessy’s (25) departure ‘leg before.’

*Luff’s 3rd partnership with Alex Griffiths (55) chalked-up another double-quick ‘fifty,’ reaching her ‘ton’ from another 35 balls. 3 overs later, Griffiths was caught by Fran Wilson, handing Mady Villiers her 2nd wicket. Luff’s 4th partnership with England academy hopeful Danielle Gibson was a race to the finish as 37 runs came from Kate Coppack and Grace Scrivens’ final overs. Than included Sophie Luff’s 150 (from 139): the skipper closing undefeated on 157.

*Also 2 ‘sixes’ struck by Danielle Gibson, made good use of ‘Storm’s’ final 2 overs.

*Without a solitary win, reluctant spoonists ‘Sunrisers’ staged another fight-back against their opponent’s mammoth 300 score. ‘Sunrisers’ were ahead at the ‘power-play’ (75/0 vs 47/1); ‘Storm’s’ opening bowlers, having gifted 5 ‘wides’ and a ‘no ball.’

*Opener Cordelia Griffith (49) was caught-and-bowled by Georgia Hennessy, one short of her ‘fifty.’ ‘Sunrisers’ remained ahead on 102/1 (vs 74/2) after 100 balls (16.4ov.)

*Grace Scrivens (46) also fell short of ‘fifty.’ By mid-way ‘Sunrisers’ were comfortably ahead by 50 runs: 160/2 (vs 109/2.)

*Two stumpings by Natasha Wraith dismissed Alice Macleod (32) from Claire Nicholas and Naomi Dattani (18) from Danielle Gibson.

*When Fran Wilson (34) was clean bowled by Nicole Harvey ’Sunrisers’ needed just over 100 runs at more than 6 runs-per-over.

*Current run-rate slowed down (pushing-up the required run-rate) as Wraith claimed a 3rd stumping, dismissing her opposite number (as keeper) Amara Carr.

*’Sunrisers” Last 4 wickets ’Sunrisers’ ended cameos by Kelly Castle (20) and Mady Villiers (37.) *2-out-of-4 wickets were lost to run-outs: the 2nd of which ran-out Kate Coppack, final match ball; at the hands of Sophie Luff.
