World T20 Cup European Qualifiers – Finishing Facts

  • +1

The 5-way tournament in La Manga Club Murcia Spain concluded with more wins for Scotland and Ireland.

France v Scotland

Result:

France 24; Scotland 25-3
Scotland won by 7 wickets

France managed to reach the same score as in their previous match, but since that was a mere two dozen, it shows the mountain they have still to climb.

The positive for them was claiming three wickets, quite an achievement in the 2.2 overs it took Scotland to each their target.

It was a great triumph for Marie Violleau who not only bowled Sarah Bryce (9) but then dismissed sister Kathryn in the same over – the sort of achievement that ought to figure on an honour’s board at Lord’s. And she has been playing the game for a matter of months not decades.

Ireland v Netherlands

Result: Ireland 111-9 (Eimear Richardson 53, Gaby Lewis 32; E Lynch 4-23, Iris Zwilling 3-14); Netherlands 87-9 (Robine Rijke 32; Cara Murray 3-9, Laura Delany 3-17, Ava Canning 1-14)

Ireland won by 24 runs

Eimear Richardson was named Player of the Tournament. Her four matches brought her seven wickets at 7.28 runs and 76 runs at 38.00. In this last match she scored 53 and took 1-22.

Scotland win through

With four wins out of four Scotland confirmed their onward march to the next stage, so-called ‘global qualifiers’ a subtle difference from mere world qualifiers. They take place in 2022.

Ireland still have good prospects of making it there as the next highest ranked nation. All will be made clear after more qualifiers in Africa this September.

Originally six nations were due to take part in Spain, but Turkey were sadly unable to travel.
