All-Rounder Alice Davidson-Richards Snatches 4 Run Win

  • +1

Northern Superchargers Women v Oval Invincibles (W) at Leeds Headingley on 31 July

Hero-of-the-match All-Rounder Alice Davidson-Richards not only hit top score with her bat (42) had best bowling figures for her team 2/17; but also bowled the decisive ball to snatch a final ball win. Receiving the customary cap and medal from Niall O’Brien, Davidson-Richards said she’d ‘enjoyed the game so much’ despite finding the Headingley pitch ‘hard to bat on.’ Between innings, O’Brien also interviewed ‘Invincibles’ spinner Mady Villiers who praised 16y.o. All-Rounder Alice Capsey (2/9), who had been on a ‘hat-trick’ having dismissed Laura Wolvaardt and Bess Heath

‘The Hundred’s’ 13th match was broadcast live (commentators included Ebony Rainford Brent, Niall O’Brien and cricketing personality ‘Bumble’ Lloyd) from SKY Sports TV plus cricket social media (Alan Gardner for EPSN-cric-info.) Invincibles played without South Africans Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail.

*Batting first, ‘Superchargers’ lost skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (4) and Jemimah Rodrigues (14) during their ‘power-play.’ Alice Davidson-Richards (42 from 30) was the only batter to score well above one-run-per-ball

*Four ‘Invincibles’ bowlers bagged two wickets each

*Alice Davidson-Richards had mixed fortunes with the ball. Taking two wickets she was infuriated at two dropped catches. Firstly during her first over with ‘Invincibles’ on 0/8, Alice Capsey (8) was dropped. Secondly Dane van Niekerk was similarly dropped with ‘Invincibles’ score on 70-3

*Bumble repeatedly expressed concern that ‘Invincibles’ needed to get a move-on, once the required-run-rate topped two-runs-per-ball

*Suddenly it became anyone’s game as skipper Dane van Niekerk scored three ‘fours’ and a ‘single’ from Linsey Smith’s penultimate over

*Bowling the ‘death’ over, ‘match hero’ Alice Davidson-Richards allowed ‘singles’ but no ‘fours.’ After the match Davidson-Richards told O’Brien praised ‘Superchargers” coaching staff as it was ‘all part of her winter training’ (to know how to handle such pressure to secure a win)

Result: ‘Northern Superchargers Women’ 109/8 beat ‘Oval Invincibles Women’ 105/4 by 4 runs

‘Northern Superchargers’ (NS-W) 109/8 (1.09 runs-per-ball) Alice Davidson-Richards 42 runs (from 30 balls), Laura Wolvaardt 27(26); ‘Invincibles’ bowling: Alice Capsey 2/9, Mady Villiers 2/19, Tash Farrant 2/24, Grace Gibbs 2/24; Fow 1-16; 2-28, 3-66, 4-66, 5-73,  6-78, 107-7, 108-8;
