University of Bath hockey duo enjoy Irish internationals

  • +1

University of Bath Head Hockey Coach Jody Paul and sporting scholar Vicki McCabe travelled to Ireland with the Great Britain Women’s Elite Development Programme (EDP) squad last week for a four-match series.

The international fixtures were part of a training camp at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, and a chance for GB’s next generation of aspiring Olympians to gain some valuable game time after limited opportunities during the pandemic.

After narrowly losing the opening two games by a single goal, GB recorded an impressive 3-0 victory in the third before ending a productive week with a 2-2 draw.

Paul is a member of the GB EDP coaching team, while Sports Performance student McCabe – who is supported by an Ivor Powell Sports Scholarship – is part of the development squad working towards the senior ranks and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“It was a productive week learning and developing with this group of athletes,” said Paul. “We achieved most of the goals we set out beforehand and now look forward to the next phase of training as we continue to prepare for the Junior World Cup in December.”
