Hope United – Take The Pledge

  • +1

Following the launch of Hope United, a squad of footballers who have come together from across the Home Nations to tackle online hate, BT has today unveiled The Pledge, which will allow the public to show their support in the fight against social media abuse during the UEFA European Championships.

Launched earlier this month, Marcus Rashford, Gareth Bale, Lucy Bronze, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Ethan Ampadu, Rebecca Sellar and Demi Stokes are among the players to feature in Hope United which, drawn together by experiences of online hate, will drive more support for change and educate the nation on how to protect themselves and be good digital citizens.

On the eve of the Euros, BT is now calling on everyone to show their support for the initiative, and to do their part in tackling online hate and abuse, by sharing The Pledge on social media. Encapsulating the message behind the Hope United, of championing hope not hate, The Pledge reads “Hate has no place on my timeline, in my inbox, in my life. Hope can beat hate if we all stand together” and is available for anyone to download at BT.com/hopeunited and can be shared on social channels.

In the two weeks since the squad was launched, Hope United has drawn support from across the world of sport and beyond, with messaging visible across social media, print and online publications, television and billboards throughout the UK. What’s more, after the reveal of the Hope United shirt, fake merchandise appeared available to purchase.

Rio Ferdinand, manager of Hope United, said: “It is fantastic to see how well received the Hope United campaign has been so far.  But as we head into the Euros with plenty of hope, it is important to remember if things don’t go to plan and passions are running high, that we don’t let hate win. So we now want everyone in the UK to get behind the squad during the Euros, and help tackle online hate by sharing The Pledge on social media.”

The Pledge is available at bt.com/hopeunited for anyone to download and share to show their support.
