This weekend sees just two matches, involving sides who were caught out either by Covid-19 or by the more mundane rain. They are G-H and DMPDS and the two Ss (glad I learned my alphabet when young).
Gloucester-Hartpury are the club closest to the average in the league table with a points difference of -9, but they can’t believe that is where they ought to be sitting. Even without the presence of their inspirational captain Mo Hunt, they will prove too strong for Darlington Sharks, whose life in the fourth season of the Prem 15s is sad to see. G-H have quality back-up at scrum-half in Bianca Blackburn.
Saracens welcome Sale for a Sunday game that can move them safely six points ahead of their nearest rivals. Quins have proved vulnerable in the new year, so were relieved to get wins under their belts in the last two rounds. Sale will continue what is called a ‘learning experience’.
By the time these games are put to bed, the league table will almost be restored to parity. One catch-up remains, between DMP again and Wasps.
Two more rounds can be fitted into the back end of the month, then the 6 Nations come calling. Its first weekend, 3 April, is when DMP are due at Twyford Avenue. Even without a number of players being invited to don a white shirt, Wasps can be sure of repeating the towsing they gave the northerners in Round 4.
