This selection includes no fewer than sixteen players now plying their careers with Tyrrells clubs, seven of them at DMP Sharks.

Doyle has awarded the captaincy of the touring team to Helen Nelson, the experienced midfielder, who was one of five Lightning players stretching their limbs against Quins down at Surrey Sports Park last Saturday.

This pre-season friendly between the clubs that finished second and third last season was marred only by the absence of the Red Roses, called away for their own training session. They are so numerous on the two rosters that it gave the remaining players far more scope to show off their wares. The Scots were prominent over the three sessions of play.

Lightning now possess two national captains.

The two test matches will be played in Cape Town.

The first: Monday 30 September at 2pm (BST)
The second: Saturday 5 October at noon (BST).
