  • +1

Opening Boundaries have announced that their annual women’s Bowling Out Gender Inequality event will take place on Sunday 8th September at Dulwich CC.

Mr Hough, President of Dulwich Cricket Club commented saying “We are delighted to be able to welcome both teams to the “Bowling Out Gender Inequality” event at our club on Sunday 8th September. We hope this is a memorable day for everyone and that it helps bring such an important topic to the attention of as many people as possible.”

The event, now in its 4th year, will be played with the UK Armed Forces women’s XI v Opening Boundaries women’s XI. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of and promote gender equality in sport at all levels of the game.

The event will be supported by the Surrey Cricket Foundation, Chevy Green, Cricket Participation Manager commented: “Surrey Cricket Foundation are keen to encourage the widest possible participation, providing the opportunities for young people and adults to fulfil their potential in a cricketing format which suits their needs. Opening Boundaries are a good example of bringing both the playing of cricket and the spirit of the game together for the benefit of the communities not only in the UK but across global cricketing communities. Opening Boundaries continued support within women’s cricket through the Bowling Out Gender Inequality campaign fits with our core values and we are extremely excited to be involved this year! I applaud the hard work, dedication given by Halima and her team supporting numerous events including this year’s T20 spectacle encouraging gender equality. We look forward to continuing our relationship in seasons to come.”

This year the event will host a breakfast discussion on the topic of gender equality with the theme “Driving Gender Equality in your organisation”.  Organisers will look to invite leaders from the world of sport, military and business who will come together to share, learn and connect with each other on what can be done to progress gender equality and inclusion – from the field to the boardroom.

The breakfast session will be co-hosted with DIAL Global; a worldwide community (representing diverse, inclusive, aspirational, leaders), committed to driving change through purpose and action in the workplace and society.

Minaxi Mistry Co-founder of DIAL Global stated “We are delighted to be supporting such a great cause. Whilst there has been a great increase in participation of women in sport, we believe there is much more work to be done to increase representation and growing women through the industry. We look forward to working with Halima and the team”.

The event is once again supported by the Armed Forces who will be delivering activities to engage with the community and raise awareness of what they do and can offer. On the field, the morning session will also consist of junior cricket coaching to anyone to come and take part in.

Following the morning’s activity, the women’s game will start at 12:30pm and the organisers would like to encourage local communities to come and take part in, and support what promises to be another fantastic event.

Afsheen Khan, Director of Opening Boundaries commented saying “this year we are bringing a different dimension to the day and I believe the morning session hosted with DIAL Global will be a great opportunity for partners from different industries to come together and share good practice. Most importantly realising that diversity of women in leadership is important for organisations who want to see a productive and thriving workforce.

The event itself highlights women and communities from various backgrounds, cultures and races all coming together through the medium of sport.

Halima, a founding member of Opening Boundaries went on to say “These women, some of whom are Civil workers, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers and many more, are fantastic role models and an inspiration to future generations. When young girls and boys see greater visibility of women in sport and especially in positions of leadership, it can only be a positive step forwards for gender equality. This movement is as much about raising awareness of creating an equal playing field as it is about communities coming together to share their diversity and learning about each other through the medium of cricket”.
