Steph Houghton and Carly Telford withdraw from England squad

  • +1

Captain Steph Houghton and goalkeeper Carly Telford have withdrawn from the England squad.

The captain felt mild groin pain following the Lionesses’ meeting with Canada on Friday evening and the decision has been made to rest her in order to manage her load ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer.

It means the defender will sit out Tuesday’s ‘Road to France’ international against Spain at Swindon Town and has returned to her club.

Carly Telford has also withdrawn from the squad after she sustained a concussion in training. The England goalkeeper will not now be available for the rest of the camp.

This follows The FA’s concussion guidelines in managing her return to play.
