Dominant Wasps bounce back with win over Waterloo

  • +1

Wasps maintained their spot in the top four with a convincing 34-0 victory over Firwood Waterloo. The hosts dominated territory and put in an impressive defensive shift to keep a determined Waterloo side off the scoreboard.

Wasps were in the ascendancy from the opening kick-off. Louise Dodd crossing after 10 minutes, taking a pass at pace and crashing over the line.

The visitors had opportunity shortly afterwards but two missed penalties kept Waterloo off the scoreboard. Wasps demonstrated their clinical nature with a try shortly afterwards, excellent handling in horrible conditions created space for Garnet Mackinder who raced in for the first of her two tries.

Wasps extended their advantage just before the end of the first half as England legend Rocky Clark crossed from close range, for the hosts to lead 15-0 at the break.

Wasps came firing out the blocks in the second half as Hannah West raced through a gap in the Waterloo defence to score within two minutes.

The hosts finished strongly with a second of the day for Garnet Mackinder and a score for Claudia Macdonald who finished from the base of a scrum 10m out. A strong performance from the home side will build momentum for a tough set of fixtures over the new year.
