Wasps looking to regain momentum

Wasps continue their battle to maintain position in the play-off spots in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s as they host Firwood Waterloo. Following a frustrating loss to high flying Loughborough Lightning, Wasps will be looking to regain momentum into the new year.

Wasps find themselves in fourth spot in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s but some 11 points off third place. With Gloucester-Hartpury hot on their heels, the game this weekend is a must win fixture to ensure they aren’t caught by the chasing pack.

The hosts have made 4 changes to the side defeated at Loughborough last weekend. The one change in the backline sees club captain Kate Alder (Sponsored by PSB Industries) return to the side, replacing Katie Mason (Sponsored by SNAP Sponsorship & Lions Sports Academy), while Garnet Mackinder moves out onto the wing.

In the forwards, Wasps welcome back Ireland international Claire Molloy to the back row, after coaching the development side to victory last weekend. There are also two changes in the second row as Kasey Allen partners Amy Wigley. Amy will be making her first start of the season for the first team, having played a large part in the success of the development side so far this season.

The visiting side find themselves 8th in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15’s thus far with three wins from 10 fixtures. However, two of those wins have come in the previous three weeks against Worcester and Darlington Mowden Park. They will be keen to prove themselves against a top side and will provide dangerous competition if the hosts are not at their best.

In recent weeks Wasps have been seeming to build an exciting style of rugby, with the backline showing glimpses of some outstanding running. They will hope to continue this improvement at Twyford Avenue this weekend and will hope for a repeat of the eight try victory over Firwood earlier in the season.
