Vitality Roses score third award of the year

England’s senior netball squad, the Vitality Roses, have been named Team of the Year at the Sports Journalists’ Association (SJA) British Sports Awards 2018.

Following their historic triumph at the Commonwealth Games in April against home favourites Australia, the Vitality Roses have since been named Team of the Year at both the Sunday Times Sports Women of the Year Awards and the BT Sports Action Woman Awards.

Members of the Vitality Roses attended the SJA British Sports Awards today (06.12.18) at The Pavilion at the Tower of London, which were introduced to recognise the sporting achievements of athletes across the country.

The awards each year see more than 700 of the country’s leading sports writers, editors, photographers and broadcasters vote for the Sportsman, Sportswoman and Team of the Year in the longest-established awards of their kind in Britain.

Ama Agbeze, Vitality Rose and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, said: “We are absolutely honoured to receive this award. It means so much to us to be recognised alongside such big British sporting achievements in 2018. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us on our journey.”

The Vitality Roses are not done yet though; it was this week announced that the team’s dramatic win at the Commonwealth Games has been shortlisted for the Greatest Sporting Moment Award as part of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Voting has now been opened up to the public and will close on Friday 14 December, before the awards ceremony takes place on 16 December in Birmingham. You can enter your vote for the Vitality Roses here.
