Lightning hit the road for round seven of the Tyrrells Premier 15s

  • +1

After another dominant performance against DMP Sharks last weekend, a table topping Lightning side will look to increase their lead over the rest of the Premier 15 sides as they head north to Firwood Waterloo Ladies this Saturday.

The game, which forms part of a double header with the Lightning 2’s, who also take on Firwood Waterloo Ladies in the Development League, will kick off at 12.30pm.

With last week’s game against Sharks being a game to two halves, Lightning will aim to repeat their fantastic first half performance in this week’s game against Waterloo. Cutting out small errors and being clinical in both attack and defence for the full 80 minutes will be crucial in the next few weeks, as competition for the top spot in the Tyrrells Premier 15s increases.

Lightning 2’s squad also travel north, alongside the first team, looking to secure their first away win in the Development League. The side, bolstered by a handful of Lightning first team players who will return to the field after injury, will be really keen to get another win on the board.

Back with the first team, there is just one change to the Lightning line-up who beat DMP Sharks 59-3 last Saturday. Scotland international Jenny Maxwell steps onto the wing in place of Isla Alejandro, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to an already strong back three.

Of the game this week, Head Coach Rhys Edwards commented:

“Looking ahead to Waterloo, it’s another tough away game against a strong, tightknit team. However we are confident that if we can go up and apply what we have done in the past two or three games, we can put in a positive performance and get a good result. We know it’s going to be tough up front and it’s important that we win that physical battle, get gain line and momentum as we are a very hard team to stop once we have good forward momentum. They have some key players who can put them into good playing positions, so it is important that we retain ball, keep in control, and get the job done. We are looking to push on now and remain at the top of the table.”

Commenting on the Development side, Head Coach Rhys Edwards said:

“I’m also excited to see the Development team playing again and see their progress. We have some exciting players in that squad who are getting better and better. We also have some Lighting players step down for game time; Hannah Phillip, Georgia Bradley, Sarah Bonar & Bethan Zeidler, who will add huge value and experience.”

Lightning will kick-off the double header at 12.30pm. If you can’t make the game make sure you tune into the Lightning Twitter account for live updates.
