Wasps Ladies v Richmond Preview – Double header at the Ricoh

  • +1

Wasps will host Richmond at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry as part of Wasps Heritage Day. The game will take place following the Wasps v Bath game in the Champions Cup. It will be the first double header with the men’s side since their move to Coventry. Wasps have made 4 changes to the starting line-up from the side that was defeated at Allianz Park last week.

Wasps make one change in the forwards as Emily Maisey picks up her first start of the season after a powerful performance off the bench last week against Saracens. She replaces Claire Molloy, with Alice Sheffield shifting into the backrow.

Flo Williams also earns her first start of the season in at fly half, with Louise Dodd starting at inside centre. Wasps two ladies selected for the Red Roses squad both start, with Claudia MacDonald retaining her spot at scrum half and Abby Dow returning on the wing.

Wasps will be looking to break the record attendance for a women’s club game. The current record stands at 4,542 set at The Stoop last season. The game will take place at the same venue that the Red Roses set the record attendance for a Six Nations match in England in March; the same game where full back Nolli Waterman became England’s all-time record try-scorer.

Wasps have started the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s well, with three wins from the opening five games. The hosts have only lost to the two currently undefeated teams in the league. Wasps currently lie in 4th position and will be looking to push on up the table with a victory at the Ricoh before travelling to Darlington Mowden Park Sharks the following week.

Richmond have been inconsistent so far this season, only picking up one win out of five, but with a number of good performances against strong opposition. With a good victory on the road at Worcester and running unbeaten Loughborough close in the opening game of the season, they will provide stern opposition for Wasps.
