Lightning aim to strike for a sixth consecutive week

  • +1

A very dominant Lightning side will look to keep their winning streak alive this weekend as they take on DMP sharks in the sixth round of the Tyrrells Premier 15s. The game, which forms part of a double header with Loughborough Students RFC who also take on DMP in the National One league, will be held on the 20th October and kick off at 5pm on the 1st XV pitch on Epinal Way.

Having clocked their second win of the season against Richmond last week, DMP Sharks will be determined to stop Lightning’s winning streak. However, with a home win against Bristol Bears under their belt, Lightning will feel confident going into this weekend’s clash. Sitting second in the table to Saracens on level points, Lighting will look to press ahead of last years champions in the weeks to come.

The Lightning starting 15 remains relatively unchanged from the previous week that secured a 36-18 victory over Bristol Bears last weekend, and features no less than five squad members of the recently announced England Red Roses squad for the Quilter Internationals.

Of his selection, Head Coach Rhys Edwards commented:

“Going into this weekend against DMP, we know it is going to be a tough game, our fixtures against them last year, away in particular, were very physical and attritional. We have great momentum from the first five games but it’s important that we maintain our level of composure and execution. If we stick to our processes we will be in control of the game however, we can’t sit back and allow DMP to come into the game and play their kind of rugby. We are excited for the weekend and have kept quite a consistent team going into the game, but it’s important that we kick on over the next few weeks and maximise the opportunity to maintain our league position.”

Loughborough Students RFC will kick-off the double header at 3pm followed by Loughborough Lightning at 5pm. The Lightning game is free of charge, so head down to campus and show the ladies your support.
