Sommer to make debut for Harlequin Ladies

Harlequins Ladies Co-Head Coaches Karen Findlay and Gary Street have announced their squads to play Worcester Valkyries on Saturday.

Kristine Sommer, a US international who played for the Eagles at the 2017 World Cup, has joined the Club and starts at flanker. Sommer played football in America for the University of California before discovering rugby and going on to play for Seattle Saracens.

“Karen Findlay approached me during the World Cup and, while I was surprised, I was completely excited for another opportunity to play high-level rugby,” said Sommer.

“I am looking to work on my back-row skills over here and expand my technique and attack in the lineout. I’m also excited about the rugby culture over here.”

Elsewhere Shaunagh Brown moves to prop and in the backs Lucy Packer plays on the wing while Leanne Riley comes in at Scrum-half. New signing Khadidja Camara, who made such an impact in last week’s Development Squad victory, is named as a Game Changer.

Findlay said: “We are delighted to welcome Kristine Sommer to the squad and look forward to the positive impact she can have on the team.

“It was good to get back to winning ways against Firwood Waterloo and I was pleased with the character the side showed at Surrey Sports Park.

“We now face another challenging away day at Worcester and we relish the battle for both our first XV and Development squad as we continue to improve and grow this season.”
