University of Bath-based Vicky Holland won her second ITU World Triathlon Series gold of the season as she recorded an excellent victory in the Elite Women’s race in Edmonton, Canada.
The Rio 2016 Olympic medallist, coached by Rhys Davey at the Sports Training Village, made the best transition from the bike ride to the run and then produced the fastest 5km in the field to cross the line first and repeat her 2015 success in the same city.
Holland, who has also won ITU gold in Leeds and silver in Bermuda this season, has moved up to second in the overall World Series rankings behind Katie Zaferes of the United States with one more round before the Grand Final but, despite her excellent form, she is not thinking too far ahead just yet.
“I take a race at a time, I try not to think about leading the series too much,” said Holland. “Katie has had such a strong season, she hasn’t messed up any races.”
It was an excellent day all round for British Triathlon with Georgia Taylor-Brown, Jessica Learmonth and Jodie Stimpson also finishing in the top five.
Holland will next be in action on Saturday (August 4) when she represents Team Bath at the 2018 Accenture British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup in London.
India Lee, who will represent Great Britain at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships the following weekend, is also in the Bath National Performance Centre quartet along with Will Crudgington and University of Bath Mechanical Engineering student Alex Chantler-Mayne.
