England Women hit the highest IT20 score in the history of the game – and Tammy Beaumont the second-fastest IT20 ton – as they stamped their mark on the Vitality IT20 Tri-Series with a 121-run victory over South Africa.
Beaumont and Wyatt put on 147 for the first wicket and Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt refused to lose the momentum as the hosts piled on a huge 250/3.
Wyatt fell for 57 but Beaumont raced along to bring up her three figures in just 47 balls, second only to Deandra Dottin’s record of 39 balls.
Brunt and Sciver’s cameos were equally aggressive, with their innings and Beaumont’s ranking as England’s quickest knocks for all innings over 25.
South Africa had a long way to go to threaten England’s target but despite a good knock from captain Dane van Niekerk they never got close.
Remarkably – on a day that was all about the batters – Anya Shrubsole bowled two maidens and went for only eight runs.
It was a good start from Mark Robinson’s side but they’ll want to back it up in their double-header on Saturday June 23.
