Steph Houghton to miss Friday’s World Cup qualifier

  • +1

Steph Houghton has sustained an injury to her right knee and will be undergoing surgery this week to treat it.

Izzy Christiansen and Jordan Nobbs have also withdrawn from the England squad due to minor thigh and foot injuries respectively.

Both players will return to their clubs and play no part in Friday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier in Russia.

Lauren Bruton [Reading] and Lucy Staniforth [Sunderland] will now join Phil Neville’s 20-player squad for the trip to Moscow – their first senior call-ups.

Arsenal’s Leah Williamson is drafted into the 20-player squad as cover for the England skipper.

Defender Gabby George (Everton), Alex Greenwood (Liverpool), and Aoife Mannion (Birmingham City) are all training with Phil Neville’s squad at St. George’s Park this week.
