Valkyries announce double signing

Worcester Valkyries have announced the signing of Morfudd Ifans and Vicky Foxwell, who have joined the Club with immediate effect.

The duo made their Valkyries debuts during Saturday’s trip to Harlequins and will add more competition to Roy Davies’ side as they prepare for their final three games of the Tyrrells Premier 15s season.

Hooker Ifans, 21, has one cap for Wales and was part of their 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup squad.

Currently based at Cardiff University, where she studies Accounting and Finance, Ifans is a mobile front rower with a physical edge, and can also play in the back row.

Valkyries Director of Rugby Davies said: “It’s really pleasing that another international player was so keen to come on board and be part of what we are looking to build at Valkyries.

“Despite being relatively young she has been exposed to elite environments during Six Nations and World Cup tournaments and we will be looking for her to share that experience with the rest of the squad.”

Twenty-year-old Foxwell, who can play a fly-half or centre, has previously featured for England Under 18s in the FIRA Women’s European Championship and joins Valkyries from Bristol Ladies Rugby.

Davies continued: “Having worked with Vicky before I know how much she has to offer. She is a versatile player with excellent distribution skills and possesses the athletic ability to challenge defences both with and without the ball.

“She has seen the opportunities others in her age group are getting here at the top level and she was keen to come to Valkyries and continue her development.”

Davies added: “Obviously we’ve had a tough season results wise so far, but I can’t fault the attitude of the group since I’ve been here.

“We are seeing progression week by week and have exposed a huge amount of young players to top-level rugby.

“We have a strategy based around growing and developing the best young talent, and these signings further strengthen those aims.

“We understand that we will have a few more challenges along the way in the short-term but there is no doubt that there is a bright and exciting future ahead for Valkyries.”
