Saracens hope to take the sting out of Wasps

  • +1

Saracens Women have named their side to face Wasps FC Ladies at Twyford Avenue on Saturday for round thirteen of the Tyrrells Premier 15s, kick off 13h30.

Rob Cain has named a largely unchanged side from last week’s storming win vs Worcester Valkyries. Wasps will pose a much tougher opponent this time out however after enjoying a string of wins to put them third in the table, two places behind league leaders Saracens.

Emma Uren retains her starting spot after bagging four tries on her return to the Premier 15s last week and is joined in the back three by Nina Vistisen at full back and captain Lotte Clapp on the opposite flank. Georgie Gulliver starts at scrum half alongside Helena Rowland who continues at fly half following an impressive eighty minutes against the Valkyries, and Zoe Harrison returns from injury to add fire power to the bench. Lauren Cattell and Cara Wardle form the centre partnership.

The Sarries back row of Bryony and Poppy Cleall and Marlie Packer is unchanged after notching up seven tries between them last weekend. Valeria Fedrighi, who has recently been named in the Italian Six Nations squad starts in the second row alongside Sonia Green.

The only changes come to the front row as England U20’s props El Perry and Hannah Botterman return to the starting line-up alongside hooker Kat Evans.

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Rob Cain said: “Going away to Wasps will be a good challenge for the group and playing at Twyford Avenue is never an easy place to come away with points. We need to continue to progress and keep taking our game further on each week. Wasps have been in fine form the past six games scoring 35 tries and conceded only 11 which shows you how much they deserve their third position in the table and how dangerous they are, with and without the ball.

“We believe that we can cause them problems with our own style of play, forcing them into scenarios which they may not be completely comfortable with by chasing our pre match aims and looking to move the ball to the areas of the pitch on our terms.”
