Women’s rugby results and Tyrell’s Premier 15s Roundup

  • +1

The Tyrrells Premier 15s returned at the weekend following a Christmas break. Round twelve was once again packed with action, drama and plenty of tries. Saracens remain top with Harlequins close behind, while Bristol and Wasps both picked up crucial victories.

Richmond FC 15 – 37 Gloucester-Hartpury Women’s RFC

Gloucester-Hartpury grabbed their sixth win of the season, securing a bonus-point victory away at Richmond in part thanks to Ellie Underwood’s hat-trick.

It was Ellie Kildunne who scored the first try of the game on 10 minutes before Richmond hit back and Underwood grabbed her first.

Richmond responded to bring it back to 10-10 but the visitors’ Sarah Bern made it 17-10 at the break and Tayana Heard went over in the corner to extend the lead further.

Gloucester-Hartpury wing Underwood then completed her hat-trick and Kelly Smith rounded off the scoring on 79 minutes to put the gloss on the 37-15 away win.

Wasps FC Ladies 31 – 10 Darlington Mowden Park Sharks

Four different try-scorers went over as Wasps FC Ladies claimed their fourth straight victory in all competitions by overcoming Darlington Mowden Park Sharks 31-10.

Things were finely poised at 14-10 at the break, with Louise Dodd and England prop Rochelle Clarke going over for Wasps while Abby Dow’s two successful conversions proved to be the difference after the Sharks had dotted down twice themselves.

Wasps pulled away in the second period and eventually ran out 31-10 winners.

Alice Sheffield got the ball rolling, Dow adding the extras, before Danielle Waterman and Dow herself also went over to round off a fine afternoon’s work for Wasps at Twyford Avenue.

Saracens 105 – 0 Worcester Valkyries

Twins Bryony and Poppy Cleall recorded five tries between them during Saracens’ impressive 105-0 bonus-point win over Worcester Valkyries.

The Cleall siblings were two of eight different try scorers at Allianz Park on Saturday as league leaders Saracens crossed the whitewash 17 times for their biggest win of the season.

Winger Emma Uren top-scored with four efforts, closely followed by a hat-trick from player of the match Bryony, while Poppy, Marlie Packer, Cara Wardle and Helena Rowland bagged a brace – the latter also kicking ten successful conversions – with Sonia Green and captain Lotte Clapp also on the scoresheet.

The hosts were 53-0 up at the break against a young Worcester side, and they continued to apply the pressure with Uren the one to get the final score in the final minute.

Bristol Ladies 59 -7 Firwood Waterloo Ladies

Bristol secured another impressive victory, beating Firwood Waterloo 59-7 at home.

Lagi Tuima and Sydney Gregson were both scored a hat-trick, while Lillian Stoeger-Goddard also crossed twice – including a memorable effort down the right wing.

Bristol scored three tries in the first 15 minutes but Waterloo battled away impressively and finished off with a penalty try at the death.

Harlequins Ladies 17- 10 Loughborough Lightning

Two tries from Davinia Catlin helped Harlequins edge out Loughborough Lightning to keep the pressure on Saracens at the top of the Tyrrells Premier 15s table.

Catlin and fellow forward Fi Fletcher both went over to give Quins a 12-0 lead at the break.
Catlin completed her double early in the second half, but a spirited fightback from Loughborough earned them a losing bonus point.

Lizzie Adam and Sarah Bonar went over to set up a nervous end to the game, but Quins held on to win 17-10.
