University of Bath-based Eilidh Doyle recorded a season’s-best time as she claimed 400m hurdles victory for Great Britain at the European Team Athletics Championships in Lille, France.

The Rio 2016 medallist, coached by Brian Doyle at the Sports Training Village, eased away from the field to secure a clear victory in 54.60.

“That’s what I was looking for, no big stutters and putting together a technically much better race,” she said.

“Even there it wasn’t perfect but I think it was the best I could do in those conditions – it was quite blustery so I made some adjustments to my stride pattern. I knew there was a sub-55 in there, it was just putting it all together.”

Jack Green, a former training partner of Doyle at the STV, won the equivalent men’s race in 49.47.

Sports Performance graduate Danny Talbot teamed up with CJ Ujah, Zharnel Hughes and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey to win the men’s 4x100m relay in a championship-best time of 38.08.

Thompson Education Trust scholar Cameron Chalmers, who studies Sports Performance and is coached by James Hillier at the STV, made his senior British debut in a men’s 4x400m relay team that finished sixth.

The women’s race saw a British quartet featuring University-based Olympic medallist Emily Diamond and Biochemistry graduate Kirsten McAslan finish fourth.

A largely developmental British Athletics team also placed fourth in the final overall standings.

Attention now turns to this weekend’s British Athletics Team Trials in Birmingham (July 1&2), where qualification for the London 2017 IAAF World Championships will be at stake.
