If you live in the Mid Suffolk area and would like to have a go at walking football then Stowmarket Walking Football club, supported by Sport England and the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, will be holding a free trial session for women only on Sunday 25th June, 4-5pm at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre on their astroturf pitch.
If you are interested in attending please just turn up, they are hoping to get a good turnout of players. No experience is necessary just a willingness to take part and enjoy yourself. (Obviously you will need trainers and comfortable leisure clothing.)
Coaching the session will be Laura Worsley. Laura has been coaching walking football since July 2012. She set up Stowmarket Walking Football team in 2014 to provide members of the community, age 45 and over, the opportunity to take part in team sport. Apart from the obvious social and physical benefits of organised sport, the aim was to help support the NHS rehabilitation services to get clients back into exercise and maintain fitness and well being.
The team train on Wednesday nights from 8-9pm and there are now new sessions on Monday nights from 7-8pm and both are suitable for men and women of mixed abilities.
The hope is to form a new women only team following on from the trial on 25th June. All sessions will be based at the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket on the Astroturf pitch.
The team take part in tournaments, friendly games, charity games throughout the year to promote the team but also get the health benefit messages out there when taking part in team sports in the community. It also gives the team events to work towards and aim for as they improve their fitness and skill levels.
Don’t be shy if you live in Mid-Suffolk then get along to the Leisure Centre and have a go!
