Loughborough Lightning have today unveiled former England international Matthew Hoggard as their new Assistant Coach.
Joining Head Coach Sall Briggs, Hoggard will work with the Lightning squad in the build up to the second season of the 2017 Kia Super League, which kicks off in August.
Hoggard brings a wealth of experience from his time in the men’s game, where he played for England for the best part of a decade, later captaining Leicestershire for three years.
Playing both test match and one day cricket, Hoggard spent thirteen years playing for his native Yorkshire before joining Leicestershire. He brings a wealth of bowling experience, having taken 248 wickets from 67 matches, making him England’s sixth highest wicket taker.
Of his new challenge Hoggard said: “There is a massive amount of talent in the women’s game, coupled with the tenacity and desire to improve. I’m massively looking forward to helping the team get more game aware and to reach their full potential.”
Briggs added: “Matthew’s a great addition to our coaching staff; his experience and knowledge will be invaluable to our bowling unit. We’ve started our preparation already so he’s already working with our talent ID players, up-skilling their knowledge on white ball cricket. His presence has already brought excitement to our environment and the girls are keen to learn as much as they can.”
