Samantha Murray, originally from Clitheroe, Lancs set the bar high in the fencing ranking round with a strong 22 victory and 11 defeat score.  Closely following on her heels was Dorking’s Francesca Summers who demonstrated once again her skill in this discipline ending her matches with 19 victories and 14 defeats. Rio Olympian, 26 year old Kate French, finished her fence with a blistering 23 victories against 10 defeats whilst Jo Muir held steady with 14 victories and 19 defeats.

All four looked strong in the pool with Murray once again setting the bar with a 3rd place 2.13.01 swim.  Hot on her heels was Muir with a great swim time of 2.17.38 and French coming home in 2.18.70

It was all to play for as the four lined up for the Laser Run. Murray’s work in the fencing hall and pool put her in pole position as the first to start with French hot on her heels just 3 runners behind her. Summers and Muir were in the middle of the pack starting a comfortable 13th and 20th place. All the girls paced the race well to be assured of making the top 15 in their Group and so securing their place in the Final. Muir’s time of 12:32:41 showed what a class act she is in the run  – producing the 2nd fastest time of the competition so far.

The event in Kecskemet is the third of the 2017 World Cup season following competitions in Los Angeles and Cairo. A further World Cup will be held in Drzonkow, Poland later this month (25th-29th May) before the World Cup Final in Druskininkai, Lithuania from 23rd-25th June.
