Mike Greenwood Trophy tournament returns for 5th year

  • +1

The Mike Greenwood Trophy pre-season tournament is to return for its fifth year and Superleague teams Wasps, Team Bath, Celtic Dragons and Hertfordshire Mavericks are all set to take part in the event on Saturday, December 10.

The annual contest will take place at Belle Vue Stadium for the first time, which will also play host to three regular season Manchester Thunder home games in 2017.

Last year’s tournament was won by Team Bath, who will return to Manchester in an attempt to retain their crown.

It will be the first major competition in charge for new Black and Yellows head coach Karen Greig and also the first opportunity for squads to play competitively in pre-season.

The annual tournament is named in honour of former Thunder head coach Mike Greenwood, who passed away in 2011.

Debbie Hallas, Manchester Thunder managing director, said: “The MGT is a great opportunity to preview the Vitality Netball Superleague 2017 squads before the season starts, especially with all the changes that have taken place in the off-season and new clubs being added.

“It will also be a good chance for coaches to get to see players in an intensive match environment at our new home venue for 2017.”
