Yesterday afternoon Bristol Ladies took to the field in their first cup match of the season away at Lichfield Ladies. The final score was 45 – 5, with a well drilled and oiled Lichfield side securing the victory.
The Bristol side was made up of a mix of experience and new faces. The likes of Clara Nielson, Sasha Acheson and Lottie Holland who have played their part in every 1st XV fixture played alongside the less experienced Vicky Foxwell, Rownita Marston and Gracie Hood – with every player on the field giving their all for 80 minutes.
Gracie Hood crossed the line for Bristol during the first half, with Bristol playing through the phases and getting the ball out wide. The intent from Bristol was good, however the execution let the team down times – the foundations are absolutely in place, and now it’s for the team to work hard, train hard and develop the team to it’s full potential.
Emily Underwood, who returned to Bristol this year after taking a year out to Captain her University side was named Forward of the game, for her excellent support play and work rate. Back of the game was Rownita Marston an award gained off the back of some strong carries and powerful tackles.
Next week sees the 2nd XV away at Supermaries, followed by another away cup fixture at Thurrock.
