Womens Weekly Round up 14th August – by Rebecca Bird
On Sunday Thatto Heath St Helens travelled away to Bradford Bulls Ladies and Thatto emerged with a 38-10 win. Thatto’s Tara Jones scored two tries and there were further tries for Chantelle Crowl, Tara Stanley, Jenny Welsby and Sammi Simpson. Stanley also added five goals. Bradford’s Jess Courtman scored both her teams tries.
In the other league game on Sunday Featherstone Rovers hosted Stanningley Ladies and the home side carded an impressive 52-18 win.
On the way to victory Featherstone scored nine tries, scored by: Kayleigh Bulman, Jasmine Rowley, Manina Spurr, Gemma Walsh, Amy Smith, Sinaed Peach, Brogan Churm, Steph Grenham and Andrea Dobson. Gemma Walsh added eight goals.
Stanningley’s three tries were scored by Rachel Barker with Tasha Gaines successfully converting them all.
In the North West County Cup Leigh Miners Rangers welcomed Barrow Ladies and Leigh Miners progressed to the final with a 52-4 win.
Leigh centre Georgia Sutherland had an impressive game scoring four tries and earning the player of the match award. Rachel Ogden and Serena Tamou both scored two tries each with one try for Emily Mullen and Niamh Gilward. Emily Mullen also added six goals.
Barrow’s try was scored by Michelle Larkin.
