Greenmount CC Win Under 13s County Final

  • +1

Greenmount Cricket Club from the Greater Manchester Cricket League are County Champions at Under 13 level having defeated Lowerhouse CC of the Lancashire League on July 5th. They will now go on to represent Lancashire in the national stages of the ECB U13 National Club Championships starting with an away fixture in Cheshire on July 10th.

The Lancashire Cricket Board govern the County Competition with affiliated leagues being asked to identify representative clubs who enter a last 16 draw (see attached), with the 4 semi-finalists attending Finals Day.

This year Bury Cricket Club put on an excellent Finals Day on Sunday 26th June, which saw Greenmount CC triumph over Longridge CC of the Palace Shield in a tightly fought first semi-final before Lowerhouse CC beat Burscough CC of the Southport & District Junior Cricket League in the second semi-final. Unfortunately the weather put pay to the final and indeed the second attempt at the final on June 30th was also washed out when the game was evenly poised.

So to July 5th with Greenmount CC our hosts and the sun shining the final got underway uninterrupted. Greenmount won the toss and batted first posting an impressive 131 in 20 overs. They followed this up with some tight bowling and excellent catching to win the game. Every credit should also go to Lowerhouse CC who played some excellent cricket throughout the competition and the future looks bright for both clubs.

James Cutt, Clubs and Leagues Officer for the LCB, said: “Our thanks go to all the players, parents, coaches, umpires, groundsmen and other volunteers whose efforts make this competition possible.

“We wish Greenmount CC the very best of luck in the national stages of the competition and hope they can go far.”
