  • +1

Since the announcement that there will be a Women’s Cricket Super League we have all been excitedly waiting to see how the stars of the England set up will be allocated to the 6 teams that will be taking part. The wait is now over and the ECB have today announced who will be playing where. Captain Charlotte Edwards will play for the Southern Vipers and England’s wicket keeper will travel north to lead Lancashire Thunder.

This is how they will line up:

Yorkshire Diamonds

(who face Loughborough Lightning in their opening match on 30 July at Headingley) will have:

Lauren Winfield, Katherine Brunt, Danielle Hazell and Jenny Gunn.

Katherine Brunt: “I’ve played my entire career for Yorkshire CCC and I’m very proud I’ll represent the Diamonds in this latest chapter of the development of women’s cricket in the county.”

Loughborough Lightning

will include:

Current student Rebecca Grundy, Georgia Elwiss, Amy Jones and Beth Langston.

Becky Grundy said: “Loughborough University have played an integral part in helping me to get into the England side so I’m really proud that I’ll play for the Lightning in the Kia Super League.”

Southern Vipers

will have:

England Captain Charlotte Edwards, Natasha Farrant and left-hander Lydia Greenway.

Here’s what Charlotte Edwards had to say: “I’m really excited and happy to be a Southern Viper.  The Ageas Bowl is somewhere that I’ve always enjoyed playing and I have particularly fond memories of winning the Women’s Ashes there in 2013.”

Southern Vipers take on Surrey Stars on 31 July at home at the Ageas Bowl.

Surrey Stars

will be:

Captained by Natalie Sciver and she will be joined by Laura Marsh and big hitter Tammy Beaumont.

Natalie Sciver: “I’m really pleased to be asked to be Captain of the Southern Stars – it’s a great opportunity and an exciting set up.”

Western Storm:

Heather Knight returns to her West Country roots to captain the side.  Anya Shrubsole and Fran Wilson will also represent Storm.  Storm will play Lancashire Thunder in Taunton on 31 July.

Heather Knight: “As soon as it was announced that there would be a Kia Super League team based in the South West I knew where I wanted to play.”

Lancashire Thunder

Surrey’s Sarah Taylor will lead Thunder with Kate Cross and all-rounder Danielle Wyatt.

Sarah Taylor: “It’s great news that I’ll be joining the Thunder this summer and I’m really happy that I’ll be part of a strong cricket set-up at Lancashire.”

Now we wait to find out who will join the England players at each of the Super League sides and continue to look forward to a very exciting summer of cricket.
