Jamie Sherwood has made a late boost to his side, with the signing of highly rated player Kayleigh Green.

Having just returned from the Cyprus Cup, where Green was playing for her national side Wales, Yeovil manager Jamie Sherwood has obtained the playing services in the lead up to a busy first week, as the start of the new season fast approaches.

Green scored for Wales in the 2-2 draw against Finland recently and joins from Cardiff City, where she was club captain. The 28 year old, had been a bluegirl for 18 years and has made 11 appearances for her national team.

Green will be cup tied for this coming Sundays game with Sunderland at Huish Park, but will be available for the short journey to play against Bristol City Women on 23rd March, followed by another away game at Watford on 27th March.

On signing for Yeovil Town Ladies, Green said “I am happy and excited to have signed for Yeovil this season. The club has great ambition and I’m delighted to be a part of the team.”

“I’ve always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League and to have this opportunity is great and I can’t wait to get started.”

“I want to say a massive thank you to all the players and staff at Cardiff City Ladies. I’ve had an amazing time at the club since a youngster and I wish them all the best for the rest of their season.”

Manager Jamie Sherwood commented, “I’ve known Kayleigh for many years and I had the opportunity to work with her at Cardiff City LFC where she captained the side to a very successful second season for the club.”

“Kayleigh brings plenty of hunger, ambition and has plenty of experience. Her enthusiasm and attention to detail in her preparation made it a simple decision to sign her.”

“This signing will bring another quality player into the group that will continue to develop our winning mentality and desire to success in this season to remember.”

“I have been extremely pleased with her since her coming into training and it is a disappointment that she is cup tied for the upcoming game but she will be pushing for a place in the starting 11 in the league campaign.”

Yeovil face WSL1 side Sunderland this Sunday 20th March at Huish Park, where they are just 3 games from Wembley, as they play in the last 16 of the SSE FA Women’s Cup. Tickets are available here costing £5.00 adults / £2.50 concessions. The game kicks off at 2.00pm.
