With the light snow thawed in time for kick off the SSE Women’s FA Cup tie between C&K Basildon Ladies and Coventry United Ladies was delayed no longer at the aptly name Frost Financial Stadium.

The first ten minutes saw the teams size each other up in a middle of the pitch battle, Coventry United Ladies soon gained the upper hand after a series of strong attacks. A corner from Helen Dermody set up a low volley for Ash Neville who fired it past the keeper, putting Coventry United Ladies into the lead. Coventry United Ladies created numerous chances to further their lead but just couldn’t seem to convert them, a lucky C&K Basildon Ladies entered half time just 1-0 down.

The second half saw C&K Basildon Ladies tighten together as a unit in both attack and defence, however constant pressure from the visitors eventually paid off when a shot from Helen Dermody ricocheted off the bar and onto the foot of fellow team mate Alison Hall who fired it home. The Coventry defence were able to hold off the efforts from C&K Basildon’s attacks. Final score 2-0 to Coventry United Ladies who travel on to the 3rd round away to Sporting Club Albion Ladies.
