Investec Women’s Hockey League previews, Nov 28 2015

  • +1

After battling to a draw with Canterbury last weekend Holcombe will be aiming to end their 2015 fixtures on a high, but they face unbeaten high-flyers Surbiton in the Investec Women’s Premier Division.

Saturday’s match-up is at Sugden Road, and Holcombe will be aiming to do better than the last time the two teams met three weeks ago, when Surbiton ran out 5-0 winners.

“It was quite a tough game, they were clinical in the D,” said Holcombe captain Leigh Maasdorp. “But it was a really good game, and it didn’t feel like a 5-0.

“We both had 35 circle entries, but we just need to convert more chances. Our focus has been on our attacking play and ability to score goals, so we’re looking forward to the match.”

Also unbeaten are the University of Birmingham, and they will want to keep that record intact and record a ninth win in 11 league games when they entertain Buckingham.

Canterbury drew 1-1 with Holcombe last weekend, and they go to Leicester with hopes of maintaining their good form.

Clifton are at home against Reading, who drew 3-3 with East Grinstead last weekend. Bowdon Hightown are this weekend’s opponents for East Grinstead at Saint Hill Road.

Hampstead and Westminster take on Wimbledon in the Investec Conference East, and will want to maintain second place in the table after moving up thanks to last weekend’s 2-1 win over Harleston Magpies.

Leaders Slough, who beat Cambridge City 1-0, are at home against bottom of the table Ipswich.

Wakefield were made to work hard for a 1-0 win over Ben Rhydding last weekend, and they will want it slightly easier when the Investec Conference North leaders play host to battling Beeston this Saturday.

And in the Investec Conference West Stourport, who beat leaders Sutton Coldfield last weekend, could go top if they beat visitors Bristol Firebrands and Sutton Coldfield suffer a shock defeat to the University of Bristol.
