John Salomon reflects on last game at Watford Ladies

Watford Ladies’ last game of the season ended with an entertaining 0-0 draw at home against London Bees, it was also John Salomon’s last match at the club.

“Credit to the girls, they came out on fire and it was as strong as a performance as you’ve seen from us all season,” the departing Manager said afterwards.  “Every individual stuck to their task and did what we asked of them and even went beyond that at times.

“As a team, it was a really good performance. I’m just disappointed for the girls that they didn’t get that goal to win the game, but by the same token I couldn’t have asked for anymore from any of the players today.”

While there was plenty of play in the attacking third for the Lady Hornets, one of the players to impress the most was goalkeeper Shayla Burgess.

“Shayla was outstanding,” said Salomon. “We know what she’s capable of and as a young keeper she just keeps getting better. She’s got a real exciting future ahead of her because she’s a fantastic little goalkeeper.

“She made some really key saves at key moments in the game today and we’re obviously really proud of her. I look forward to keeping tabs on her progress over the years to come.”

With it being his last match after seven years at the club, was there any time for some sentimental moments on Sunday?

“Not really, I didn’t know they were going to do the little guard of honour thing and applause when I came out,” explained Salomon. “I wasn’t aware of that until we were literally walking out the tunnel and Lauren [Davey] asked me to not to go out before the players.

“That was a nice moment and I’ll always remember that, it was really good of the club to organise that.”

With the season and John’s time at Watford over, what should fans expect to see over the coming weeks and months?

“I think for supporters, players and staff, they’ll notice some changes next season that are really going to help move this club forwards,” reveals Salomon. “It’s worth people keeping an eye on the club and looking forward to a stronger season next year.”
