Emerging Spitfire

Yesterday’s match report of the first day of the first day of England’s 4-day Ashes test against Australia, featured the photo of England Captain Charlotte Edwards with the Waitrose mascot, I thought readers may like to know a little more about this talented young girl.

The honour of being the Waitrose mascot, for this important Ashes test, went to Rachel Stevens, a youngster who has come through the Chance to Shine programme.

Rachel started playing cricket at her primary school (Furley Park) through their involvement with Chance to Shine and soon joined her local club, Mersham Sports CC. Soon becoming a cricket fanatic, Rachel became a regular member of Mersham Sports and enjoyed playing in every competition going, either school or club.

As she has grown up, Rachel continues to play at her club and is now involved with the Chance to Shine Satellite Club at The North School, she has also now been selected in the Kent Under 13 Emerging Spitfire Squad!

Rachel’s favourite Player is Lydia Greenway.

I am sure the experience of being close to so many wonderful players in both English and Australian camps will have inspired Rachel even further.

It’s great to see so many talented young players coming through and really enjoying playing cricket – we wish Rachel every success with the Under 13 Emerging Spitfire Squad, and hope to see more of her in coming years.
